Default How long corona lives

https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/487110-tests-indicate-coronavirus-can-survive-in-the-air?fbclid=IwAR1wj-VwIhrc7xaUpng6510FPBYI_vT7FGtk hWYr_G61muSS0RRLgNDVvtA

Federally funded tests conducted by scientists from several major institutions indicated that the novel form of coronavirus behind a worldwide outbreak can survive in the air for several hours.

A study awaiting peer review from scientists at Princeton University, the University of California-Los Angeles and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) posted online Wednesday indicated that the COVID-19 virus could remain viable in the air "up to 3 hours post aerosolization," while remaining alive on plastic and other surfaces for up to three days.

"Our results indicate that aerosol and fomite transmission of HCoV-19 is plausible, as the virus can remain viable in aerosols for multiple hours and on surfaces up to days," reads the study's abstract

Thus the need for face masks or something covering your respiratory tract! Duh! Stuff like that is the reason the masks were invented to begin with.

Looks like I'm wrong, as far as original reason for wear . . .

. . . but I'm sticking with "something is better than nothing" regardless.

You say duh but not everyone knew how long the virus lives once it hits the air. I was thinking about mail being delivered when the question came to mind. Thinking I should probably wear gloves while handling my mail.

You have made some great points. My Daughter is a Traveling RN and she told me the same thing. Thanks Sweetie for the PSA.

According to the original bottler of Corona beer, shelf life is just under 6 months (if out of sunlight, heat, etc).

Ok, back to topic after that brief, but needed, intermission:

According to several medical geek folks I know, and as mentioned above, the virus can easily live several hours in the open depending on external environment.
So use those cleaning wipes.
On everything.

Btw, one of our local major teaching hospitals has a department that has gone all in on disecting this thing. They've gone down to the molecular level and are sharing their data openly (with other geeks). The news folks have no clue about this activity cause its "boring".

As for masks, the cheap ones only stop dirt and large stuff. Moisture can go through those.

YD, excellent thread.

Interesting article on symptoms taken from today's Google News app. Symptoms aren't always respiratory but often intestinal.

Respirators won't do shit for that, will they?

Correct, thats due to the 2nd pathway of get it on your hands, and then touch your face, scratch your nose, wet your lips, etc. It will show up in lungs a bit later.
And most masks are crap anyway.

I would think something like this could find it's way through most anything. After all it's a itty bitty molecule
