Nevada Senator Harry Reid wants to allow Illegal Immigrants to be granted citizenship if they attend 2 years of college or join the military. OMFG! What is happening to our country.

Unless Arizona is very different than Texas, most constituents don't bother to vote. Politics is about name ID and fundraising, so you can make sure your message gets across louder than the other guy's.

And Arpaio's message resonates with the mouthbreathing branch of the law-and-order crowd, who tend to put a good ass kickin' of minorities ahead of inconveniences like the constitution and civil rights.

From http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/immigr...ilcitizens.htm

Service in Wartime
All immigrants who have served honorably on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces or as a member of the Selected Ready Reserve on or after September 11, 2001 are eligible to file for immediate citizenship under the special wartime provisions in Section 329 of the INA. This section also covers veterans of designated past wars and conflicts.
Service in Peacetime
Section 328 of the INA applies to all members of the U.S. Armed Forces or those already discharged from service. An individual may qualify for naturalization if he or she has:

  • Served honorably for at least one year.
  • Obtained lawful permanent resident status.
  • an application while still in the service or within six months of separation.

EOQM

Now the two years of college is a joke. Surprised the useful idiots haven't included "two flight simulation classes" as the sole qualification.

Riiiight. I knew your weak rationale was just a 'retarded Maricopa voter' charade.

Pathetic.

Has nothing to do with Maricopa - it's a nationwide phenomenon. Extremists are active and vote. Moderates typically aren't. So determine which extreme will get you into office, and spend your money preaching to their hot buttons. Works great, especially in local elections.

I disagree. Most of us in America are moderates who may lean one way or another, but the media (Hello, Fox and CNN) tries to whip us into a partisan frenzy in order to lock in viewers. It's kinda pathetic, but apparently it works.

"Despite the splash of attention from the newest lawsuit, ... in September 2008, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, known as ICE, did its own investigation of Arpaio's office -- and gave it a clean bill of health. Arpaio's lawyers recently got a copy of the ICE report through the Freedom of Information Act.

"ICE officials evaluated how the sheriff's office performed under a law that allows specially trained local law enforcement officers to enforce parts of federal immigration law. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, which is the largest sheriff's office in the Arizona, has 189 officers who have been trained by ICE to enforce federal immigration statutes.

"The report, crammed with acronyms and bureaucratese, is not light reading. But struggle through it, and the key sentence is this: "The OI and DRO supervisors consider the conduct and performance of the MCSO ... officers to be professional and meeting the requirement of the MOA." Translated, that means officials from the Homeland Security Department's Office of Investigation (OI), along with officials from the Detention and Removal Operations office (DRO), concluded that the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), in its handling of illegal immigrants, acted in a professional manner and complied with a memorandum of agreement (MOA) under which the government gave them the authority to enforce federal law. That agreement included a ban on racial profiling.

"ICE investigators also interviewed top federal officials involved in illegal immigrant cases in Arizona. They found an "excellent" working relationship between the sheriff's office and the feds. ICE talked as well to federal prosecutors in Phoenix, who described the cases brought by Maricopa County as "high quality.""

Another unfortunate defect in liberal thinking seems to be that liberal "thinkers" believe that "conservatives" cannot REMEMBER ANYTHING ..

... or worse yet, CANNOT READ!

Speaking of the "law and order crowd" ...

..... how about those Black Panters on election day 2008?

Whose "minority asses" were they going to club at the polls?

So one group tasked with protecting the borders has given a clean bill of health to another organization that they work with on a regular basis? Stop the presses!

Seriously, I'd be more impressed to see that a group like Amnesty International felt that Arpaio was doing a good job.

And curiously, a quick Google search revealed that only the source you provided carried this story. A bit more research revealed that the Washington Examiner is a free paper published in DC, and owned by Denver billionaire Philip Anschutz. According to Politico.com, "When it came to the editorial page, Anschutz’s instructions were explicit — he 'wanted nothing but conservative columns and conservative op-ed writers,' said one former employee."

Interesting that no mainstream media carried this story. One has to wonder if it's legitimate.
