A far more egregious example of the foolishness of PC is the reaction to the usage of the word;

Simply because it sounds similar to, and closely resembles the spelling of another epithet, this perfectly valid word has been all but drummed from the language by the PC police.

Right on! I’ve got to say, I’m completely worn out with PC-ness myself. A rose by any other name is still a rose at one end of the spectrum, and you can’t make silk out of a sow’s ear on the other. I think it depends on where you stand on the transgender / hermaphrodite issue whether it is a rose or a sow’s ear. Myself, I don’t care; live and let live I say. So I just call them a man if they want to be a man and a woman if they want to be a woman out of respect for the person.

Me neither. But I make the man or woman call based on which rest room they use.

However, hermaphrodites/intersexed individuals often can't decide if they want to be a man or a woman because of their mixed sexual physiology. They may have been raised as a male or female, but usually during puberty they realize that they are not completely male or completely female. If they cannot label themselves as a man or a woman, then how can we?

At the chromosome level hermaphrodites are either male or female. They, of course, have the prerogative to adopt what ever sex they care to adopt without regard to their DNA or their childhood's parentally, imprinted sex. I have a post-operative transgender friend. She introduced herself as a woman so therefore she is a woman to me. I don’t know any hermaphrodites, I assume because it is very rare, but I would refer to them however they refer to themselves. It’s their bag. I have neither judgment nor dog in the fight.
