Finally saw the movie. Great film, awesome special effects, and some sex appeal. 10ft tall blue women with tails running around half naked, what a cool fantasy. I especially found the lead female character to be HOT. Sexy, tough, can shoot straight, has attitude. I loved it when she would "hisssss", and show her teeth, her ears would fold back. What a turn on.

OK, I'm going to seek help now, I'm fantasizing about a giant Smerf.

I literally finished watching the movie about ten minutes ago. It was intense and very impressive. Everything that I imagined it would be. I've wanted to see it since it came out in theaters but finally just got the blueray version of the DVD. Wow.

Certainly makes you think. A lot.

I've watched it twice. I really enjoyed it even though I had heard the plot was not different from some others (Pocahontas etc.). However, the visuals were awe inspiring, great leaps of imagination and yes jaxar a really, strong women who even in alien form made you realize that there are a lot of things about a woman that make men jump through hoops.

Anyway, I highly recommend the movie as well. I also bought the CD. I don't watch movies generally more than once, this is one I can watch a number of times and enjoy the scenery.

I absolutely loved it, too! I've watched it countless times, already.

My kids say that if I don't quit watching it all the time, they're going to hide it from me!

I just remember one of the lines in the movie that the 'princess' said about Avatar when she first met him. You are a 'baby' and a moron hehe. It reminded me that I've been called that by several providers and been called a moron by gf's (not providers) as well. Being that I've got a Ph.D. that shouldn't sit well with me but you know, I've got to admit, sometimes we can be big babies and morons. It all depends upon the context, the when and the where and as always the experience you have.

Anyway, there were so many visuals in Avatar that watching it is a pleasure. My kids by the way, would only watch it when I put the movie in and they got bored. They finally liked it but not as much as me. Go figure?

I had the same experience with "Shrek" when it first came out a long while back. I went with a friend and my then pretty young son. My friend and I were laughing out loud at some of the parts and my son was just sitting there not having much of a reaction.

Of course, got the video when it came out and a few years later, he did enjoy it more but never to the extent that I did.

Sometimes cartoonish stuff is more fun for adults. Think "pepe lepu" and that's probably a similar thing.

I saw Chuck Jones (the legendary Warner's animation director who created, among others, Wile E. Coyote/Road Runner, Pepe LePew, Marc Antony (the bulldog who fell in love with a kitten), and Michigan J. Frog) interviewed about his time at Warner's. He said, perfectly seriously, that he and the other Warner's Animation crew never created their cartoons to amuse children, or adults. They created them to amuse themselves, and figured that if they were amused by their cartoons, some other people would be as well.

This will probably make me unpopular but I didn't like it. They spent too much money on the effects and not enough on writing. I just feel effects and money don't make a film great. My friends call me a movie snob but I didn't like Brokeback Mountain either. Despite its great craft in making, it was ultimately about a pair cheating on their spouses and there's nothing noble about about that. Anyways. Sorry to go against the grain but I loathe that movie that much.

Not sure what you went into it expecting, but have you ever seen any other James Cameron movies? Not exactly literary masterpieces.

You are hardly the only person to voice such an opinion.

Frankly, once I heard the plot was basically "Dances with Ferngully on another planet" (my daughter's one-sentence summary after she saw it), I lost a lot of my motivation to see it.

You're right. He makes movies more than serious film. I expected a great deal more from the guy who made The Abyss and figured he was due for another good one.
