Over the last nine years, it's ranged from $21K to $10K a year, averaging a bit over $15K.

Yes, I keep track of it. But I'm sitting on a nice nest egg for retirement and still sock away the maximum I can in my 401(k) each paycheck. Day-to-day living expenses and a comfortable retirement come before this. P4P is a luxury, not a necessity, and it's not the only luxury -- there are plenty of others competing for my cash. But compared to what I could spend on golf (or what my wife spends on clothes), P4P is not really as much as it seems. I'm quite confident that there are a
lot of guys who spend much more than I do.

I squirrel away money when I can do so discreetly and build up a "stash." I don't blow it all at once, but when it's down to $0, I wait until it builds back up again.
