And on a different note, but back on topic..........

They found a 4 month old baby alive and was able to return it to the parents. Also a 70 yr old woman. There are a few bright moments to this.

Be that as it may, in the original context the question was irrelevant and I was questioning what point he was trying to make. Subsequent responses indicate a desire to get into a "I know you are but what am I" type argument.

That's an unfair question. Obviously, certain people here would pay an income tax if the hobby weren't driven underground. On the other hand, some of the ladies may very well make payments to the IRS in order to not deal with potential problems (By the way, I hear the IRS was given some combat shotguns last year, which have a barrel length that would be illegal for us mere peasants...I wonder what those will be used for...).

Having said that, I oppose the income tax, since it requires a person to labor without receiving voluntary compensation (i.e. wage slavery). Rather than worrying about who's paying their "fair share" I'd be more concerned about working toward outright abolishment of the income tax. It's also worth noting that even those who do not pay an income tax still pay through sales tax and inflation (we all pay quite dearly on the latter). It's the poor who suffer most from inflation, yet the so-called "liberals" who champion the little guy don't seem to wish to address that matter.

I had seen an article which had stated that 50 workers had stayed behind in the nuclear reactor in order to hopefully prevent a total meltdown. That's damned heroic. I can't help but wonder if we would see such a glorious display of character in the U.S. at this point in time. Not necessarily as upbeat as your examples, but a fine tale of courage nonetheless.

Those 50 workers are truly an example of individuals willing to put their personal safety aside, and continue their potentially fatal efforts to shut down those reactors.

As well as the uncanny ability to work ridiculously long hours, under intense pressure and not crack.

They are without question HEROES, irregardless of the end result of their efforts. And let's hope their efforts are successfull...because the stakes are so high for the Japanese people

I have no doubt that there are similiar...yet totally different situations...where the human spirit of unselfish sacrifice is made here in the US, as well as other places.

Heck, do you know...or ever had the chance to speak to a fireman? And yes even a cop! They are not all donnut-eating, vice-busting, judgemental individuals. How about the rescurers on 9/11 or the plane that crashed in Penn. on 9/11?

As far as the above discussions of who donates what, taxes, and misplaced humor...in the master scheme of things, NO BIG DEAL.

But shows there is also a side to us that is remarkably capable of childish immature behavior in us all. Some of us are just more capable of showing that side than others.

Chernobyl also had its share of heroes that gave their lives to help mitigate that accident. Fortunately the tragedy in Japan (from a Nuclear standpoint) doesn't seem to be as bad as what Chernobyl was. I don't believe its a matter of nationality and that when the need arises in this country we also have our share of heroes as well. I believe Heroism is a characteristic of the human condition and not a product of nationality. Nevertheless, God bless those who risk their lives for the safety of others!!

I *think* that the dogs ended up getting rescued. I'm not 100% sure though.
