Huh? Irrelevant? You're trying to stick to the topic lol?

Nearly all of your comments in this thread have accused the Republicans of lying about the Dem position on healthcare subsidies. You keep arguing over the definitions of "illegal alien" versus "lawfully present immigrant".

I'm giving you a chance to look at the big picture. You know, the forest instead of the trees. What are you afraid of? If you feel strongly that some NON-CITIZENS should receive US taxpayer-funded healthcare, then make your case. I'm genuinely curious to hear what you think.

He doesn’t know. It’s the same CR that the Democrats voted for the last 13 times. But somehow it’s the Republicans fault. There’s no cure for TDS.

The difference of course is that the previous 13 times were before the OBBBA stripped out Medicare and ACA subsidies.

Somehow I don’t find that funny.

I find it funny because you are wrong, tx.

The OBBBA (or One Big Beautiful Bill Act) doesn't "strip out" any subsidies. (I'm not familiar with any Medicare subsidies, do you mean Medicaid?)

What's happening is this - the subsidies in the original ACA passed back in 2010 remain intact.

In 2021, Biden Democrats jacked up those subsidies to excessively generous levels as a temporary pandemic relief measure. The pandemic is now over, which means those inflated subsidies are being allowed to expire at the end of this year, as intended.

Lol, not quite. But I do know that the majority of ACA enrollees who enjoyed those credits are from states Trump won

Quote:
The enhanced premium tax credits have led to the ACA Marketplace more than doubling in size since 2020. States that President Trump won account for 88% of Marketplace enrollment growth since 2020. In some of these states, like Texas and Georgia, at least 10% of the population in a majority of congressional districts is now enrolled in a marketplace plan. In Florida, at least 10% of the population in all congressional districts is enrolled in the ACA Marketplace.

The expiration of the enhanced tax credits is expected to cause ACA enrollees’ out-of-pocket premium payments to increase by over75% on average, with people in some states seeing their payments more thandoubleon average.Lower-incomeandolderenrollees, as well those who live in states that have not expanded Medicaid, are expected to see the most significant premium payment increases.
The restoration of those credits would disproportionately benefit Trump states

Definitely not something the Republicans should be shutting down to government over. Not when they control the House, Senate and Presidency and claim their anointed one has mastered the Art of the Deal, but can't seem to do anything governance wise or to woo votes from the other side.

That's poor leadership. Plain and simple

Great! Then why not let the (enhanced 2021 emergency pandemic relief) ACA credits expire (as Democrats intended when they passed them), if you think that would hurt all those MAGA voters and make them turn against Trump?

And btw - Republicans aren't shutting down the govt over this. Dems are. Republicans are just letting the temporary, pandemic-related emergency ACA credits expire, as the Dems wanted when they voted them in 4 years ago.

Once again, you don't get the proper framing.

Yep, I meant Medicaid when I said Medicare. And you are correct that the subsidies are set to expire rather than being cut. Despite that the subsidies are good policy for hundreds of millions of people. It’s worth fighting for.

As a left leaning centrist that usually votes Democrat I think the shut down is the Dems fault.

If you dig into the Democrats counter they’re trying to demand wasteful spending again in addition what others have already called out in this thread. Republicans can’t be the only ones that are financially responsible.

- $3 million for circumcisions and vasectomies in Zambia
- $833k for transgender people in Nepal
- $4.2 million for lgbtq people in the Western Balkans and Uganda
- $3.6 million for pastry cooking classes and dance focus groups for male prostitutes in Haiti
- $500k for electric buses in Rwanda
- $6 million for media organizations for the Palestinians
- $300k for a pride parade in Lesotho
- $882k for social media and mentorship in Serbia

At least next time one pushes in the stool of a Haitian male prostitute he can have a delicious pastry afterwards.
