Just months ago in congratulating his US Attorney in DC he talked about how crime was down in DC significantly. I think he said 30%. He commented on how great a job he was doing. That’s proof positive this is all a show and a farce. As noted prior, it’s performative bullshit that only his base and sycophants believe has any real value.
Maybe when he went to Paris or a someplace and saw armed military walking around he thought that looked cool and wants to replicate it in DC. Who knows, but this has nothing at all to do with fighting crime.
Ultimately l, it’s not sustainable so is just a waste of money and effort. He had soldiers walking through Georgetown. I’m dubious as to the high crime occurrence there or in Northwest in general. Now if the deployment was in Southeast, ok, maybe they’d be supporting police efforts to drive down crime and drugs, but having them patrolling the national mall and low crime residential areas is just silliness.
