Default Thinking of moving to KC

...from Omaha. Been lurking on the KC board the last few weeks. I'm thinking there are better hobby opportunities. Omaha has 32 showcases on ECCIE. KC has 110 - over three times as many. It's not Dallas or Houston, but much better. KC is also more popular as a destination for the traveling/touring ladies. Plus bigger city, more to do, and even though it's only 3 hours south, I've read that those 3 hours actually make a pretty big difference regarding the weather - it stays warmer longer and the cold ends sooner. I hate cold weather.

Am I way off base here or does that sound about right?

I can tell you from personal experience that they don't want any new residents. They have been very rude to me and I'm connected to people in high places.

I decided not to live in Missouri. I'm staying in Texas.

But back to OPs question:

easymo,
KC is about 4 degrees warmer than Omaha year round (the snow melts here).
And:
BBQ,
Professional sports teams, baseball, football & soccer
Boulevard Brewery and Martin City Brewery,
Btw, several Nebraska and Iowa gals travel here frequently.

Not all of the profiles are local girls. But yes, kc is larger and a better place overall than omaha... unless you like strip clubs, then stay in omaha. If move to Dallas if I was gonna move

Yeah omaha and western Iowa have some good strip clubs. I'm looking at KC mainly because rent and cost of living look comparable to omaha but the jobs in my field look like they pay quite a bit more, and more of them too. Dallas, Houston and austin all look quite a bit more expensive to live in.

Well I'm glad you clarified. I was thinking you were moving to KC just for the hobby and boy would that have been a bad decision.

Depending on your occupation you can make a better living in austin. Homes are expensive in the city but the suburbs are still affordable.

I remember some bad snow storms in Nebraska. There was one about 83 to 85 that a partner bought a seat on an airliner just to get a document to me in time for a bid opening @ 8 AM. (Fed Ex is guaranteed for 10 AM) A snow storm came in as the plane landed: I couldn't see 20 feet in front of the car and drove 8 hours to get to the motel just for coffee and no sleep. We got the bid, but I still hate Nebraska & Iowa in the winter.

KC has not had much of a winter for the last several years. We welcome you.

I'm planning a move as well, once my lease is up. KC is much larger than Omaha, lol, and finding a nice place whether it's an apartment, condo, or house can be a little overwhelming. I have been using this service to find my future condo.

I have lived in des moines and Dallas. Kc north near the airport will seem more at home to people from NE or IA. The KC Kansas suburbs Johnson county will feel more like Dallas/ Houston.

Keep in mind that if you work or live within Kansas City city limits, you will pay a 1% city earnings tax.
