Now I do agree with this. In a sense it would be similar to a corrections officer that is working in a jail. There you have many different types of personalities, many different agendas, drama, conflict and much more. The correction officer has to deal with all that and keep the peace. Now if you take some one untrained and drop them into the corrections officers job, well it is going to be complete chaos. They are not trained or use to dealing with everything that goes on in there and maintain peace. Some will try their hardest but in the end it will over take them and burn them out. Some will keep trying to do their best but they will always hit a wall no matter what they decide. It is one of those things that either you are made for it or you are not. If you are an emotional type person, it will eventually eat you up and make life miserable. This is why the average life expectancy of a corrections officer is 58 years old. They have a 39% higher suicide rate than any other occupation. Higher divorce rate and more prone to fall to substance abuse. Those stats are from people who are trained to do job. Imagine what they would be for untrained people. There is really no shame in admitting if you are not cut out for it, because it does take a special kind of person to handle all that. Some might not want to admit it due to pride, but as I said many times through the years "pride will get you killed". It holds true in many different situations.

Now I am not trying to say this place is a jail and the mods are officers and we are inmates. It was the best example that popped into my head that the core issues are very similar. Also maybe to shed a little light on what being a mod would be like. It is not like being promoted to middle management. You can not fire people, order them to do what you want them to do and ect. You have to learn to deal with all the personalities, resolve the issues, try to steer things in certain directions with out any major problems, try to correct, or steer people if they are breaking the rules, and some cases be a counselor to the ones that have problems or have a situation. What annoys me is when I hear some one say "i would be a mod so i have the power." when in fact they are completely blind to the tremendous responsibility they are taking on for the site and the people in their area. So to wrap this up, yes there are things that the mods do or have done that I do not agree with. But in the same note I understand some of their mistakes. If they learn from them and how they proceed from there will determine their longevity and if how long it will take before it burns them out.

Oh and for OSD for his ADD :P Being a mod is not easy. specailly not for an untrained person. Some are made for it and others are not. There is no shame in admitting to it. The mods have made some mistakes and how the fix them and learn from it will determine how long they will be a mod or if they will burn out.

I believe we should bring them back. I will agree that most parties were not 100 percent innocent but who of us can cast the first stone. For those that follow all the threads and take the time to cross reference the thread information know that the recent wave of banning was the result of a couple mods that let power go to their head and then acted out to show everybody how much they could do. One was removed. I hope the other one learned from that experience or he should be removed also. We have one new mod and could use a few more that have no axes to grind. My vote (not that we get one) would be replace the mod staff and bring back the banned. Start with a clean slate and let new mods make their own judgments.

in theory your idea may be sound. i am not trying to shoot it down or anything like that. some of your points i agree with. if we wipe out the mods, then what are we left with? Is the persons taking the mod positions going view it as a chance at power? in which case we may end up in a worse position then we currently in. Also who is willing to step up and take over the mod responsibilities? I for one would love to see Jack back as a mod, but I doubt he would want it. It may be hard to find some that do not have an axe to grind and that could remain impartial. Just playing devils advocate.

Now if this is some thing you would like and others agree with you. The logical steps that I could see is do an anonymous poll asking if the mods should be replaced (yes or no). check to see what the results would be. If it was in favor for. Then I would recommend maybe have a thread where people can make suggestions on who they would like to see as a mod. In that same thread it will give the people the opportunity to voice their opinion if they disagree with some one being a mod. The hardest thing would be keeping it constructive and not a thread to take shots at each other. Then see if the people are willing to take on the mod position. This would eliminate the random person getting in the position and finding out later a few have an axe to grind against them. Which will bring us back to pretty much where we are now. They say we should control the forms and the mods should just steer us in the right direction and make sure the rules are being followed. Well this is one option to take a step in that direction. jmho

I am in the same boat with you OSD. Until recently I have not actively posted in upstate. I don't post any reviews. Most the ones I see are UTR. Two of them were debating on jumping into it with both feet, but they value my opinion and I told them straight out I would advise against it right now. So they have not tried to go any further into the hobby. Not that I am trying to keep them to myself. I just can not with a clear conscious let them walk into this mess.
