In the Sears and Roebuck catalogue of the early 1900s
you could purchase Dynamite, Full Auto Thompson Sub-Machine Guns,
and Cure All Elixirs that had alcohol, cocaine, and morphine in them.

Now those guys knew how to party.

What happened to America???

No "urban myth", BJ, bojulay is referring to the days when Coca Cola really was the 'real thing'.

[QUOTE=Bert Jones;1054778846]Is this one of those urban myth things?[/QUOTE

Bert, the Thompson Sub machine Gun was developed just at the end of WW-1. After the war, the Government saw little use for it. The manufacturer had literally thousands that were unpurchased, so they just sold them to the general public. They ads touting it's affectivness to farmers in controlling such pet as coyotes, foxes, and the like and homeowners for home protection.

The problem was the cost, which was around $200, plus the magazine. At that time you could buy a good shotgun for $20.

But yes, between WW-1 and WW-2, retailers did market THompson Sub Machine Guns to the public.

If you ever wondered how gangsters got their tommy guns,
they just ordered one up from sears, or purchased one from
a gun store.

My grandfather said the small town he lived in as a boy purchased one
as a group in case any gangsters came their way.

He also said he remembered cases of dynamite being for sale at
the local dry goods store, farmers would use it for different things.

Even though I'm a gun control advocate, just so I would be more knowledgeable on the subject, I've actually shot a Tommy gun. It filled the target full of 20 holes in less than a second, and it was heavy and surprisingly smooth. It is too lethal for the general public to own, based upon my experience with it. Thanks for the history lesson on the Tommy gun, kinda interesting.

It shoots the same round as the 1911 Colt 45 ACP.

You are correct, and out to about 50 yards, it is a devastating weapon.

For my home defense, I prefer my Mossberg 12 gage pump with 1 3/4 ounce #6 shot. Ever see what that will do?

			"... blows .... $50 to $100 ...

Is that an offset to the assessed fine .... ?

For every BLOW one didn't get, the fine would be reduced by the "blow fee"? Is that CBJ or BBBJCIM?

Are you tossing your sombrero in the ring for Dipshit of the Year, or are you seriously comparing the condition of plumbing in America from the time of the founding fucking fathers in the 18th century to the Sears catalog in the 1920s?

You must have been sharing a toothbrush with the Idiot Brothers, CC!
