Default New Windows 8

Has anyone purchased a new Windows 8 non-touch screen? If so how do you like it?

It takes some getting used to. Windows Server 2012 is the same format and it does take some time to get adjusted, but it isn't too bad. Just need to figure out where they moved everything to. I don't know how well it will be recieved. It seems fairly stable so far....

I just returned from my local computer shop and they say they will not work on any Windows 8 computers. My Yahoo site won't operate correctly. In windows 7 to load a program disc I just inserted the disc and the computer would recognize it to run it. Windows 8 doesn't see it. I guess I will just muddle along until April so Microsoft can come up with solutions. I know better than call for Microsoft assistance they are back logged for hours and I can't understand the guy any how.

Thanks for all the information, I guess new is not always best. This is a gift for a new user.

Be patient as every new Windows system has had problems and they will be sending out patches for two years to get it right.

Found this and have no idea about it but if you try it let me know how it works.
PS I am computer illiterate.

My son always has the same advice for Windows users. Get a Mac.

If you go to a computer shop that doesn't keep up the latest operating systems, go somewhere else. Reasonably complete Release Candidate and Beta versions of Windows 8 have been coming out for a year and anybody who's business depends on this knowledge has no excuse not to support it.

It's an operating system designed for tablets and phones. On a desktop or a laptop, if you don't have a touch screen you will be very frustrated with it. But if you use a tablet, it can be pretty sweet.

On your PC, stick with Windows 7, which is an awesome OS

I was shopping for a laptop for my lady recently and came across several sporting the new Windows 8. I think people who hate it have been used to all the other windows versions (I personally love windows 7).

I tried it out for a while, on a laptop loaded with Windows 8, and found that it basically operated like a windows smart phone or tablet. It didn't take me long to figure out how to get to the things I wanted to and customize other things. I think most people over think how it should operate. It is VERY simple and once you take a little time with it customization is pretty straightforward.

Having said that, I got her one with Windows 7. Being not very computer literate, I think she could have figured out how to use Windows 8 quickly... but Windows 7 is something I am very familiar with and I know I could help her with navigating any issues she had with it via the phone.

I have a MAC, love it. But the person using the Windows 8 is a rookie.
