Autumn, FWIW, I switched to Star Tron for storing my sports car this winter. I've heard from a number of mechanics that they are seeing phase separation in rabbit piss (gasohol) treated with Seafoam. Nasty business in aluminium fuel tanks like in my car (and your boat, most likely.)

Also, you can get ethanol-free gas at the two Fastrac stations in Amsterdam, NY, which is the best possible solution.

The one in Vail Mills by the circle? I could've sworn it said ethanol on pumps.
What does separation do? The mechanics I know, one being a marine mechanic, love it. My ex husband is weary. He has warned using to much causes issues.
This summer I had an issue with getting it started at Sand Island. It would not engage. He thought it was Seafoam that caused it.

I've seen a number of Fastrac's advertise no ethanol in their highest octane premium gas. It might even be all Fastrac locations. Look for the signs.

Ethanol gas in aluminum and fiberglass will gel. So now you have what look like jellyfish in the gas. at idle no problem. When running they will move to the draw tube or in tank pump. Stalling the motor. If small, motor will start and then the same thing. so you end up going slow. If lager and got in the works good, it could be hours before you can start again.

edit: just like diesel in the winter.
the small ones will go thought the whole system. The large will clog. If you only have small ones they will by the flow of gas become smaller and make it past the gas filter. Large or to many small ones will clog the filter if not clog thing up before even getting to the filter.

That's what happened. We had spent the night, and the next morning my GF (not a real GF, don't get excited) went on a supply run, and I couldn't get it started. My ex husband took the carb apart thinking there might have been moisture inside, but that wasn't it. Took over an hour to finally get it to start. He thought it was the Seafoam, and had the same issue with his truck.
I have had the issue on a few more occasions, but not to that extent. I know it's not mechanical. The engine is in top shape.

So how do you prevent/fix this problem. Star Tron? I've used that too, but wasn't as impressed. Although, I'm not sure if I was supposed to notice anything. My ex husband said if I use the Seafoam in moderation, I should be ok. My marine mechanic, who is one of the best in NY, uses it by the case.

Do you always buy you gas on the lake at a marina or can you bring it to the boat? It might be a pia to bring a few 5 gallon gas cans to the boat but it might be worth it if you can get non ethanol gas.

store empty, or store full using gas stabilizers for Ethanol gas. you can buy gas with no Ethanol but looking on the web, not easy where your boat is at.(same for me in roch, easy if near a ocean shore)
(yet you can check on usboat site for so called boat gas to be sure)

But where we at Ethanol looks to be the gas we get. (Fastrac and cam2 gas seems never near a shore) check seafoam site to see if they sell a stabilizer that for sure is ok with there product. Or if more seafoam will do the trick when storing.

I have a 50 gal tank with a pump for lawn tractor, snow blower, generator, etc. So run boat low and drain into that worked for me. fresh in boat in spring.

As its easier to store full. stabilizers and pray LOL

most marina's will not let (key word let) you do that. they want you to buy gas on the water or trailer out. mmmm let, I have done that.

If you spill that way and marina and or DEC find out errrrrr och

edit: the 50gal tank with a 12volt pump with a station auto off handle/nozzle was for my boat. Marina changed hands and that ended that. as ten feet works well for what I use it for now. Anyone want to buy 70 feet of gas station gas line with a good grounding system errrr cheap LOL
