I am also curious. Dont know how drastically it will affect my real world stuff at this time. We havent been briefed in its entirety yet however for now everyone is on edge. But I wonder if it is also a step in the process toward a full blown revolution eventually?

I haven't been directly affected by the government shutdown and neither am I being affected by Obamacare (To my knowledge, that is).
Regardless if get Obamacare of not, I am still paying between $200-350 a month for private insurance. According to Obamacare, if I want a cheaper rate, I have to produce about two children, maybe even three for Obamacare to be truly affordable. Illegal immigrants are already good at this.
But then at the same time, I'm in no position to financially support a child and I don't even have the time to raise one since I have job and go to college. I also refuse to be an unmarried black mother and live on welfare.
Regardless, we are no longer Americans living in a free society. We are nothing but consumers now. We are born, we grow up to be consumers, and then we die according to our financial means. Its sad.

Got furlough paperwork this morning, sent home this afternoon. Some say in 1995, the folks got paid for the days they were sent home after a continuing resolution was signed. So far I'm told that won't happen this time. So, it may very well hurt my hobbying to a great degree. We shall see.
They are all idiots in congress, just for different reasons. Regardless of which side you are on, Government is based on compromise. Otherwise you just spin your wheels for 4 to 8 years.

You are too self reliant for them. They do not want you to make it on your own. They do not want you to be independent. They want you to be more needy so they can attract you with the handouts and then control you through your dependency on them. That is how they gain and then maintain their power.

Federal Agencies/Operations that will remain OPEN:
- Military personnel will continue to be paid. This past weekend, the House passed and the President signed the Pay Our Military Act (H.R. 3210) to ensure that U.S. military personnel will continue to be paid during the shutdown. The bill also ensures the continued pay for civilian employees of the Department of Defense and Pentagon contractors whom the Defense Secretary determines are providing support to members of the Armed Services.
- The FAA (air traffic controllers), FBI, DEA, federal courts, and the Federal Reserve will operate normally.
- Homeland Security and national security related operations will continue.
- The U.S. Post Office will remain open and you will continue to be able to send and receive mail as normal.
- Social Security checks and benefits will still go out.
- Medical services to veterans will continue.
- Compensation benefits for veterans for service or combat-related wounds and injuries will still be paid.
- Obamacare will continue to be implemented because like Social Security or Medicaid, it isn’t subject to annual funding by Congress.
- Unemployment benefits will continue to be paid.
- Food stamps will still be available through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
- The IRS will continue to collect taxes; however other functions of the IRS will stop or slow, including some audits.
- The FDA will continue meat inspections; however other food inspections will be slowed, limited or stopped due to furloughs.
Federal Agencies/Operations that will CLOSE:
- The Department of Interior will largely be shutdown. So national parks, Smithsonian
museums, and the National Zoo will be closed.
- The Departments of Labor, Energy, Commerce, HUD and the EPA will be closed.
- Most of NASA will be closed, however some staff at mission control will remain to ensure the
safety of astronauts at the International Space Station.
