Why A&M should not follow Texas.
A&M now has the opportunity to form an identity that is uniquely Aggie and not linked to the Longhorns. The SEC beckons and like Arkansas sarge can wander over and see how he likes the neighborhood. See ya around-or maybe not!

My first thought was the Aggies should join the PAC-10 along with the others but after reading Buck Harvey's article today I can see how the SEC might be a better, long-term choice. It will be a tough decision, for sure.

Legislature wont let it happen, and it looks like UT is getting wooed by the Big 12. Allowing a UT tv deal outside of a Big 12 deal.

They (UT) need to be in a conference with other top academic and research schools. Pac 10 or Big Ten. These conferences are about more than just sports. From a research perspective, there is a lot of collaboration within conferences.
Legislature can't tell them what conference they can be a part of.

State schools, while they don't have a lot of power the State Board of higher education could file suits and threats. Then again, they really don't have a lot of power although it got Baylor in the Big 12 didn't it?
Academic standards is why Nebraska left the Big 12, UT and OU had the standards to where Neb. couldn't meet them with their prospects. I would prefer UT, OU and their troop to go to the Pac-10.

They are now saying that the remaining schools may just stay within the conference (Big 12)... 1 ten team division with no Championship game at the end. They are also saying that a TV contract has been worked out that Texas would agree with. For all that to happen A&M would have to stay... we shall see!

I find it humorous that the Aggies want an identity apart from Texas, yet their entire fight song is about Texas.
The whole conference re-alignment thing makes me mad. The almighty dollar is the goal here and nothing else...not academics, not tradition, and certainly not history.
I miss the ole Nebraska and OU games Thanksgiving weekend. The Big XII killed that a long time ago and it hasn't been the same since.
