Default Top 5 SciFi

Im curious to know what are your top 5 science fiction movies of all time are?

The rules are as follows:

Has to be a theatrical release.
Cannot be fantasy related and must have scientific/futuristic elements of hard science.
Must be verifiable by IMDB.

Here are my picks.

1 Blade Runner
2 Forbidden Planet
3 2001 A Space Odyssy
4 The Day the Earth Stood Still (the Original version! Keanu Reves SUCKS!)
5 Farenheit 451

And just because this is my thread I have to also offer up for honorable mention the original Solaris (once again the remake sucks!) Andre Tarkovskiy made a brilliant film here. And it all that more impressive that he was able to make this in 1972 at the height of the cold war in The Soviet Union! The Politcal leaders of the time just couldn't comprehend what he was saying and the film made it past the censors. Also the beauty of the Russian language comes out in this film in great emotion. It has to be viewed with subtitles and not english overdub or you lose that emotion.

Ok all run with this. I am interested to see who the officianado's of the genre truly are.

The film is THX1138 and a very good call! So is Metropolis! I just finished watching a newly remastered version on TCM where a lost print was found in Argentina that had an additional 28 min of film. It was tremendous!

Logan's Run is an excellent choice as well. BTW the film is currently being remade. I sincerely hope it is done correctly!

These are my 5 (with a tie) -- not necessarily my top 5 -- just 5 that haven't been mentioned yet:

1) Cube
2) Primer
3) Back to the Future
4) Twelve Monkeys
5) Ink
5) Pi

Special mention:

David Lynch's Dune - A lot of people hate it. I've seen both the 2 hour version and the "unofficial" TV version at 3 hours. Yeah it adds stuff not in the book (weirding modules), but the movie got me to read the book, then the series and all the recent prequels, sequels and in-between-quels. I watched the SciFi version from the early 2000s and hated it - I didn't even bother to watch that sequel.
