I recently purchased a laptop at a pawn shop. When I checked to see if it worked, it was working fine. Once shut down and re started, an administrator password was required.
I have no idea how to get passed this.
I do not have a recovery disc, or reinstallation disc.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the Geek Squad at Best Buy can fix this. I just got my computer fixed by them, but it cost me about 200.00. Maybe the pawn shop has had this problem with computers they see, and they can give you some advice. If it is going to cost too much, I would return it. Good luck on this.

call the place where you bought it and ask them for the password. they should have it since they were able to get it started.

What operating system does it? I have some old geek squad recovery cd's around someplace. If your OS is XP I may be able to help you.

Find the Ultimate Boot CD. One of the programs on it has the ability to show and change account passwords of a Windows system.

again, the simplest path is to just call the person/place you bought it and ask them the password. If you use the tools mentioned above and don't know what you are doing, you can fuck the laptop.

Satexasguy is right. Evidently the pawn shop must know what the password was. But if they have forgotten what it is you'll have to reset it. I downloaded Ultimate Boot Disk that Mokoa recommends and it does look a little difficult to use. First you have to find the ISO file to download and burn it to a CD, then the password recovery is kind of tricky too. However, It's a great tool!!

With Geek Squad you boot up your computer on it and then you go to password settings and it erases the old password , using a a tool called Samurai, letting you get into WIndows without the password . Once you are in, you can re-set the password.
