Default What would happen if...

Most of us: provider & hobbyist alike, have our private lives and our "other life". Sometimes the 2 get mixed, but as a whole, we keep both separate and hidden from friends and family. However, I am fairly sure that with the "other" phone or email addy, there are contact names and numbers of those we have extra special relations. Text msg. if you don't know, can easily be retrieved by your cell phone provider.
So what would happen if you lost that other phone and someone who knows you only by your private life finds it and sees who is in your phonebook, finds your other email and sees what is going on. Something horrible happens to you and for whatever reason(s) all is revealed. OMG!

Which is why I don't use a hobby phone. I just (discreetly as I can and to a bare minimum) use my regular personal phone. I try to do as much initial contact as allowed by e-mail, ECCIE message, text. And since I don't do a lot of hobbying with new ladies (most are now established or know me well enough to allow for those contacts), this seems to work out ok.

Seems like it would be much harder to explain the need for a 2nd phone than a couple random numbers here or there (and those can be deleted from history ASAP as needed).

I couldn't agree more Wiz. I tend to lean toward keeping things as simple as possible. You are less likely to screw up. The more complexity you add (second phones, etc.) I think causes the potential for more issues.

I also greatly prefer to make contact via email, PM, or text. It irritates me that a lot of providers don't allow these avenues of contact (especially text). Perhaps there is a good reason, I don't know. I don't see the difference between a text and a phone call with the exception that I am MUCH more likely to send a text to than make a phone call. That's probably just me though.

To be perfectly honest with you, I wasn't so much speaking about the employer's phone, but rather the employees' phones.

Definitely one reason that a hobby phone can be dangerous. Imagine having to explain to a SO why you have a second phone (like Walter White in the tv show Breaking Bad). Some of us have easy excuses for friends or so-workers (my phone doesn't work internationally so I use this one when I travel, I lost my phone a few months ago and got this as a replacement until i could get a new one), but an SO would know that was bullshit.

I've had a hobby "burn" phone and google voice number that I route to my existing line. The google voice has been the easiest to use and manage for discretion. The do not disturb feature alone is worth it's weight in gold. phone never rings but I still have access to texts and messages via the web interface. Discovered that you can even receive texted pictures now. they get converted and sent to you via email. If I need to I can either pay to establish a new number (the first one is free) or just gin up a new google personality. Havent had to do that yet because I can also block any number I want and it will never ring through or even get to my voice mail. Best part is no extra device to explain to anyone.

if being caught is a issue dont save the numbers to your phone and ask the girls to not contact you unless you contact them first.... find a safe place to save all your private numbers

All great advice, b@iley, but...

If I do make a call, or receive a call, that I don't want someone to see in the history, I delete the "recent calls" history.

I don't save any numbers. I always have to ask for numbers again, or look them up if they are advertised. But I don't keep them.

Unfortunately, this is the biggest problem. You can ask all you want, but someone will invariably send that random "Hey baby, what ya doing?" text or some variation. Wouldn't be so bad if they just said "Call me at your convenience" or something generic like that. But, well, so much for discretion...
