Default Why should Walmart "eat the tariffs"?

I thought trump's idiotic, ill-advised tariffs were paid for by other countries? If so, what exactly is there for Walmart to "eat"? If I didn’t know better, I could swear trump is playing his base for a bunch of fools...

... EAT the tariffs if they plan to raise prices on the USA's
hard-working citizens. ... Walmarts can make LESS of a profit
for half-a-mo.

The issue's NOT complicated, mate. ... No need to make it so.

Half-a-mo?

Trump raised tariffs on China in Feb and on everyone in Apr. Across the board and with no nuance on things with large margins and those that are razor thin.

Things they buy direct. Things they buy from others who also raised their prices.

It's not complicated. Trump's tariffs will raise prices

Correct. But, trump's voters (and maybe trump himself) still believe that other countries pay the tariffs. So, this is where the proverbial rubber meets the road.

Good luck with that Walmart boycott, rural MAGA. You know it's all you got.

Well, since you lefties aren't fans of corporate welfare, this should be something you support, biting the ass of the big corporations to save cash for the poor rural people in flyover country, you actually care shit about.

Really being hyporcritical anymore.

Depending on the products, those prices would skyrocket, Bam.

WM has responded. As usual, they're going to focus on keeping prices low. Those same kinda low prices that helped close up so many mom and pops.

I wonder if any Trump properties are eating the cost increases from his tariffs. Or are they increasing prices, dues and fees. Lead by example, right?

Hmmmm....

Mebbe both sides should drop all tariffs?

You think Trumpybear has the balls to make the first move on that as a gesture of good will?

Not like he has to worry about re-election and then WM prices can drop like crazy. He's not bringing those jobs back so he's left with kind of a mess and wants Walmart to cover for him

Dropping tarrifs on both sides is the goal Mr Gristle. The US has been on the short side. Time to even things out. Trumps the only President in recent history to have the BALLs to take this on. Pay attention Mr Gristle.

Got it. He's a globalist who wants free trade and will try to constrict trade until both sides say "no mas" and "let's eliminate all tariffs"

Won't bring home American job, though. Or increase the coffers enough to cover the tax tweaks.

If you say so.

A little information about Walmart.

Last Updated: December 16, 2022

https://mangoful.com/chinese-walmart-products-to-know/

Walmart Inc., also known as just Walmart, is an American retail corporation with a chain of superstores, department stores, and grocery stores all over the United States and other countries, like Mexico, Canada, and India.

Last year, there were 10,524 Walmart stores under 48 names across the US and 23 other countries. This makes Walmart one of the world’s largest retail chain companies in terms of revenue, according to the Fortune Global 500 list in 2020.

While Walmart is an American retail chain, not all products sold there are made in the US or supplied by American companies.

Here Is How Much Walmart Gets From China:

Most of the United States still heavily relies on Chinese imports, including Walmart. Only roughly 20% of Walmart’s retail products are from US-based suppliers. According to estimates, 70 to 80% of Walmart products are from China, excluding food, meat, and fresh produce.

############################## #########

When 70 to 80 percent of your products suddenly go up in price by 30% that cost cannot be borne strictly by the shareholders. Some of it must be passed on to the customers.

The way capitalism works Walmart will pass through as much as the market will bear.

Truthfully global tariffs are a regressive tax on the poorest Americans.

If the products are too expensive for Walmarts clientele, then the products will sit. What does Walmart and China do then?

The answer for America is ”inflation”.
I’m guessing the answer for China is ”deflation”.
