Yao Ming is finally retiring. I called for action, but I didn't think that he would throw in the towel so soon.

It's all about the left foot.
In 2005, he developed osteomyelitis in his left foot.
In 2006, Yao broke his left foot.
In 2011, he fractured his left ankle.
All the while, he was plagued by a slew of issues with his lower body.
In eight seasons, Yao missed 180 games.

Though I never really fully appreciated him as a player, he has contributed much to the game.

I think everyone knew he would retire. His long list of serious injuries were caused in part by playing all year long . He was forced to play for the Chicom national team in the NBA off season.

Yoa was a gentle giant and a great person. BUT I will not miss his game. Time for the Rockets to move on.

When Yao went out during the 20+ win streak I said put a fork in him.

I wish we had Rick Adelman back. My guess it was either him or Yao and now the Rockets have neither. Kevin McHale didn't do anything for the Timberwolves franchise. It will take at only one or two seasons for Les Alexander to figure this out.

Scola isn't nearly as frenetic as he was as two years ago and KMart is injury prone and not a "take over the game" type player. Those are the best two remaining players.

The Rockets are lottery bound next year.

McHale did things for the TWolves . . . just not many positive . . . He personally set the franchise back several years by siginging Joe Johnson against the NBA rules. They never recovered from that clusterfuck.

I was disappointed in seeing Adelman not resigned. He is one coach who could do more with less.

Unfortunately Yao was more about marketing than good basketball. He had skills but at 7'6" I personally expected much more . . . His rebounding should have been double his career 9 boards.

I'm glad he is gone. I ran into him in a Chinese rest in China town last month. He was a prick with the waitstaff.

My take:
Yao had glimpses of being a great player, but like Ralph Sampson, he never lived up to his billing.
He was in the league primarily for his marketing usefulness to China, and other global markets. It really was all about the money.

it really was, his signing brought NBA attention to the forefront in the Far East and other markets around the world. I'll have to do some research and see just what his monitary impact was...

19 pts 9 reb 2 blk are above average career stats

not to mention the man is 7'6". while most see that as an advantage, they also don't know what its like to be 350 lbs at that height. to hate on him for having injury issues is ridiculous. to have a skill set like that at that size is a rarity. i could care less if he came back to help the rockets. we're going no where for a while. but i would love to just to see him on the floor...not the way hes suppose to go out.

Yao has skills but he also had unreal, and unfulfilled, potential.

I don't care how much of a dick he was in his personal life or how he treats the help.. I expect for my sports stars to deliver on the COURT, and keep as much of their drama out of COURT as possible.. anything more or less, is just icing.

He was a great player but sucked up alot of franchise revenue that we could have used recruiting some better talent.

I liken Yao to a pair of Jimmy Choo's. Yes it's an luxury buy that will get you alot of attention, but you'll find that they'll get very limited use. Hell you could've bought 8 other pairs of perfectly fine shoes for that price.

Overall, he's a very anticlimactic career, and I'm hoping that the Rockets can get a decent replacement and start piecing our team back together.
