Default Gas & Groceries-How Will It Affect The Hobby?

The rate of inflation is the highest it's been in years, fueled by the 2 G's, gas and groceries. Everybody complains about gas prices but groceries are also getting ridiculous. I know my money doesn't go as far as it did when I go shopping.

I'm wondering how this will affect the KC hobby industry? Guys, do you see this as affecting your playtime? Gals, do you fear an impact on your business?

As for me, probably won't affect me as much as others. I have a very short work commute and don't get out that much anyway, so gas shouldn't hurt me too much. I'm a bachelor so don't need all that many groceries either.

How about the rest of you?

Gas is the killer for me, i haven't really noticed grocery prices. But gas prices has already had me scaling back some...some.

I am in a very similar situation, but my income is not increasing, so its not like it has no affect whatsoever.

Gas and groceries aside, for those professionals (like myself) that strictly use hotels for increased anonymity and safety (especially higher end hotels), the cost of doing business is skyrocketing. Many hotels that were willing to offer a lower negotiated rate in exchange for a promise of volume are either discontinuing the practice, raising their negotiated rates or increasing the commitment (the number of stays required to book at the lower rate) . . . Unfortunately, that results in added cost and those additional costs have to be passed on . . . I find myself no longer able to afford to offer a loyalty discount for returning clientele that only book a single hour (becasue I see only one or two [VERY rarely three] clients a day, if I suffer a cancellation it can be quite costly to maintain the higher end incall to which my clients have become accustomed). However, I have made longer engagements (1.5 and 2hrs +) MUCH more attractive and affordable within my fee structure for returning clients to offset the inconvenience of being higher for a single hour . . . Most all of my clients have been very receptive to the change, but the economy as a whole is beginning to have a impact on most facets of this endeavor.

Although, oil did free-fall today - to under $100.00 USD a barrel . . . Will it have an impact at the pump? Probably not . .

Kisses,

- Jackie

I have Nephew in the oil business, and the oil war cry is "Up like a rocket..... and down like a feather". Don't expect to see any of that decrease at the pumps.

It's a scam on oil anyway. What oil "costs" on the market today has zero impact on what your cast costs today. They actual oil that is refined into gasoline was bought as crude oil years ago, and on contracted prices. But they use the market as an excuse to jack the retail cost. But don't just blame the oil companies. You'd be surprised how much tax is hidden in the cost of a gallon of gas. Between the various federal/state/local entities there they are making as much, if not more, profit than the oil companies. The only ones not profiting much are the poor franchisee retailers. They have virtually no control over their pricing, but every time the price goes up, their business goes down and they suffer.

As far as the hobby, it can't help but impact at some level. And the higher it goes, the less money hobbiests will have to spend. And I see more fringe girls wanting to dabble in this to make a few dollars. Less money in the market, more entrants into the market should make for an interesting time....

Stop paying farmers (a.k.a. corporations) NOT to grow food.

Also stop using a food product as a fuel...legalize hemp and use it for bio-diesel...or better yet start the research for using kudzu for bio-diesel....it grows everywhere needs no fertilizer very little water grows up to 3 feet a day...

I think I'll just get a Delorian and have Doc Brown soup it up for me so that it runs on trash. LOL.
