Baseball Is Just Around the Corner.......
Headed to Orlando this Sunday for a week of Spring Training games. Anyone else planning to go to Florida or Arizona this year? I always try to go early to beat the "spring-break" crowds. Only drawback is the one inning use of the pitchers and alot of the position players won't make the team.
I don't think the Astros will win it all this year but watching young excited ball players will be like watching Bagwell, Biggio, and Bell when they were young. Castro and Johnson should be getting better and Pence and Bourn in the outfield are as good as it gets...too bad we still have a VERY expensive anchor in left. The pitching should be pretty good this year. Should be fun.

Reese, I do too. I knew Ken personally, as well as his professional career. He was a cool guy. And, had one of the strongest throwing arms that this old man has ever had the pleasure of seeing.

Orlando? So you'll be seeing my Braves? Someday I'll get down there during spring training.
To rip off a Christmas song, it's the most wonderful time of the year...

I can hardly wait myself! I heard that there is talk that the Ryan Rangers might trade Michael Young for Carlos Lee! That would be an awesome deal. He still plays infield pretty well, and he definately would hit better than any of our current infielders. Two words I want to hear......."PLAY BALL"

I don't see the Astros trading Carlos Lee for Michael Young. Houston is trying to get younger and Young is at the age where winning means a lot. Besides, they'd be trading a bad contract (Lee) for a below average contract (Young).
I think the Astros might be better off shopping Lee to an AL team as a DH, possibly Toronto.

Back in college we used to go every year, not so much now. Went to Cardinals Legends Camp in 1998 though...
For baseball fans, especially those who have been baseball players in the past, it's an awesome experience for anybody to spend a week with your favorite team. Back then it was $3,100 for the week, you got put up in a beautiful hotel and got to spend 5 days training and playing actual games with other fans and then against a full legends team. You get actual uniforms, but you provide your other gear.
Can you imagine getting to take a fastball from John Tudor, or having Vince Coleman teach you how to steal a base?
They normally run during the winter, and while they're expensive, I think the 2011 package for the Cardinals runs $4,500 plus your travel expenses, for former ball players who love their teams, it's a must do event once in your life. Most major teams have them, commonly called a Fantasy Camp. You get all kinds of skill levels, but mostly non-ball players, so there's nothing to be embarrassed about if you have no skill, it's an awesome time, we had a 72 year old right fielder!

One of very few third basemen that could toy with a hitter running to 1st.
Such a loss.

Lee needs to go to 1st base IMO, then bring in a solid proven vet for LF or give one of the young guys a try. Lee plays in one of the smallest Left fields in the majors at minute maid and still cant get 2 balls that should be routine

The Astros get rid of a left fielder who makes every ball hit his way and adventure, he goes to an AL team as a designated hitter, and Michael Young is still a near .300 hitter with only a little less range that Kessinger or our third baseman....just food for thought. (I LOVE THIS STUFF....WHERE'S BANANA REPUBLICAN WHEN WE NEED HIM!)

I met Ken C. several times in person. He had a street rod shop about 3
miles from where I live and I ended up working with one the guys that worked on his car. Great guy and a hell of a ball player. Hated to hear the path he went down.
I think a fantasy camp would be an amazing experience....

Didn't the owner Comrad McLane just put up the Astros for sale?
