A good point - but I also cast a sideways glance at the policy against providers commenting on their own reviews, based on the same principle of "fair is fair." If the community is about information sharing, it really ought to be an open dialogue between buyers and sellers. It's been productive for other services - with only the occasional drama.
Granted, there are some customers who don't feel comfortable being completely candid if the provider can see what they're saying (which like talking shit behind someone's back rather than leveling with them) and some providers who turn on the drama if someone says anything negative about them (which comes from an inflated ego and a lack of humility) ... but then, depressingly many people are back-biting narcissists, so it would likely cause a lot of unnecessary drama.
And especially since the service in question is so close to the human ego, I do expect that people will be more emotionally invested in ratings of their service than if we were talking about plumbing or carpentry.

That's a fair criticism and good advice - I've had mostly good luck with reviews alone, but perhaps could have avoided some of the time-wasters and lost opportunities if I had used the search. They've been few, but it's always a disappointment.
Any tips for doing that? Just searching for someone's handle brings up a lot of info, and it's difficult to find the relevant information in the clutter.
