Korbel extra dry is not bad for the money, but make sure you get the extra dry.

White Star is about $40 a bottle and again a decent choice.

We sample a lot of champagnes/sparkling whites in our house. Here are my suggestions, based on significant consumption of each over the years...

There are three good choices in the $12-18 range that are easy to find. All three are head and shoulders above Korbel, Conte Negro, and anything Asti, in my opinion. In rank order, they are:

1. Mumm Napa Brut Prestige (NOT Cuvee)
2. Piper Sonoma (yellow-gold label)
3. Chandon Brut

For about $20-25, there is Roederer Estate Brut (also the maker of Cristal) that is excellent value.

In the $35-$45 range there is:

1. Perrier-Jouet (sweetest)
2. Moet & Chandon White Star (mid-sweet)
3. Piper-Heidsieck Red Label (my fav - nice and dry)

Lots of really good choices in the $50+ dollar range, but unless you drink a lot of champagne – or are trying to impress a dancer in the Champagne Room – not worth the extra cash IMHO.

Have fun!

Lust4life has some good choices... I use to work in a liquor store. I recommend Dom Perignon...and if you get some call me, I'll right over!

I prefer the Tosti Asti Spumante! Has a much better taste and goes great with strawberries and pussy

Tara, if you're working on party quantity with a budget, Barefoot makes a decent product. Otherwise, White Star is terrific.

Okay....my suggestion isn't technically Champagne since it is not produced in the Champagne region of France, but it's the same damn thing and it actually tastes good. I don't typically like Champagne at all, too dry and I just don't like the taste. But everyone I have turned on to Risque by Toad Hollow, falls in love with it. And it is very reasonably priced. The label is cute as Hell, too.

If I can drop my 2 cents in the champagne chiller bucket I would have to say Moet Rosé Imperial Nectar....best Rosé I've ever tasted & I've tasted a few of them. Easy to drink & fruity enough to make it enjoyable to just about anyone! My personal favorite!

Marvelous Mizzani is on target... I think that most people who don't drink much champagne, are a bit put off by the really dry champagnes.

The dryness of the champagne will be reflected in the name, in most instances. From Dryest to Sweetest, Brut Nature, Extra Brut, Brut, Extra Dry (Extra Sec, or Extra seco), Dry (Sec or Seco), Demi-sec (Semi-seco), Doux (Sweet or Dulce). I think most people who don't prefer a dry champagne will prefer a Extra Dry, Dry, or Demi-sec. I think many don't like champagne, as they know they don't like really dry champagnes, and then buy Brut Nature, Extra Brut, or Brut, as they think they will be sweeter than the ones with Dry in the name, of course this is exactly backwards from the way they really are! So they end up with a bottle that is too dry for them, and think they don't like champagne.

If you'd like a nice Rose style that is nice to drink by itself, I would suggest a red Cava from Spain. They are reasonably priced, and in general have found them to be a good value, especially compared to french champagenes.

Veuve Clicquo is an excellent mid priced Champagne often over looked

Buy an Italian Prosecco or Spanish Cava; you'll probably enjoy it more (since you are a "bud girl") and save yourself a bundle.

And go for the brut if you like it less sweet .
