Why Is This Site Slow Early In The Morning?

I do a lot of my ECCIE surfing early in the morning between 4 and 5 AM, before I get ready for work. At that time the site is often slow and/or unresponsive. I click on a link and get "Waiting For ECCIE.net" and it takes forever to load a page or it will not load at all. Any other time of the day it works fine. All other sites load quickly at that time and I have a very fast internet connection. I would think the traffic would be less on the site early in the morning.

Are they doing maintenance/ housekeeping on the site at that time?

Based on my observations, the "slowness" starts at 3 AM in Houston.
