Austin Hotels

Greetings from Canada. I am going to be in San Antonio for a conference in September, and thought that I would spend a few days in Austin on the way down. I enjoy live music and would like to stay somewhere close to the action so I can walk for restaurants, music, etc. It looks to me like The Driskill, the W Austin or Hotel Ella might be good choices. Any recommendations appreciated, thanks in advance.

The Stephen F. Austin/InterContinental is also great. The W in Austin isn't one of their (Starwood's) better ones. The Driskell feels most like Texas, so that'd be my vote for a Canadian. =)

Stay at the W.
Plenty to do, see, eat in close proximity.
Great area.

You might consider the Hotel San Jose
It is located on South Congress in a neighborhood with a lot there. It is a more eclectic place than the bigger hotels. Have heard some good things about it though I have not stayed there.
