AGAIN, THE DEMOCRATS BREAK THEIR PLEDGE TO CUT SPENDING !

The Budget Control Act is the compromise on federal spending that the Republicans and Democrats entered into last summer, as part of the deal whereby the Republicans agreed to increase the federal debt limit. That increase was conditioned on spending restraint that was spelled out specifically in the BCA. Thus, for the current fiscal year, discretionary spending was capped at $1.047 trillion. That couldn’t be any clearer. But when Kent Conrad, outgoing Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, forwarded the Senate Appropriations Committee its spending authority, the number was higher by $14 billion–$1.061 trillion. This is a clear violation of the Budget Control Act.

But the Democrats’ number is by no means random. On the contrary, the $14 billion that Conrad added is enough to match the discretionary spending that was called for in President Obama’s proposed budget–the one that not a single Democratic Senator or Representative voted for. So here the Democrats are engaging in the ultimate hypocrisy. They vote against the President’s budget because they do not want to associate themselves with its profligacy, lest they pay a price with voters. But then they turn around and slide the appropriators enough extra money to match the budget that they just voted against, confident in the belief that budgetary matters are too complicated for voters to understand, and that their friends in the media won’t blow the whistle on them.

They agreed to spending cuts with Regan; and never delivered the spending cuts but got their spending and tax increases.

Similarly they agreed to cut spending with Bush I; but they reneged, after they got their tax and spending increases !

The Democrats are pathetic liars when it comes to pledges to cut spending !

It would be very easy to cut spending. It is just very difficultto cut spending n a way a majority can live with.

Oneapproach would be to cut al federal aid and all federal funds going to Texas for example. No highway $, close all the army and air force bases, cancel all contracts to bg companies in DFW area, etc. I doubt that would sit well with the most conservative of Texan congessmen even if it cut spending by more than the agreed upon amount. (I don't hate Texas, just using it as an example of a state that many here can understand).

Until either side can pass--not propose--a budget they have little room for claiming to be the "good" folks in this.

Don't forget the 5 billion to cover the reduced interest rates for student loans. The GOP wants to take the money from the Obamacare slush fund and the democrats want to have a tax increase (that way all parents care pay for the students education even if they don't have kids). In any event now that school is out the need to extend this democratic mistake has been forgotten by the White House and the press.

Oh that's an easy one. When Bush first took office the Republican party had a long list of programs and agencies they were going to either cut spending to or eliminate all together. By the end of his presidency not one agency or program had been cut. In fact spending had increased in all agencies and programs they had listed when Bush took office.

the end result was that a Republican president helped transform a $128 billion annual budget surplus into a $1.2 trillion deficit.
