Can Someone Clarify this $15 Minimum Wage

Everyone says it applies to everyone: restraurant workers, Walmart workers, Dollar Store Workers...people in the private and public workforce.

But when they introduce it, it appears to only be govt workers and govt contractors. Then these political talking heads and their compliant reporters imply that its "everybody". Public or private.

So who specifically does it apply to?

Biden used an executive order to require federal contractors and federal workers to use a 15 dollar minimum wage. If they want it to apply to everyone congress must pass a bill raising the federal minimum wage which is currently at 7.25 per hour.

Watching CNBC right now and they're talking about Biden's $15 an hour minimum wage for ALL jobs.

Two different things.

There is a request in the 1.9T covid bill requesting a $15 minimum wage. It would replace the $7.35 current minimum. This is legislation.

He has signed an EO for federal govt employees and contractors. This won’t have a huge effect as there are not a lot of federal employees that make much less than that. Contractors might feel some pinch but not much because they are either employee replacement with wages set equal to full-time staff (above 15 already) or working for a bidded job where salaries and pay would all just reflect the 15 so no loss either way.

Agree. Also agree that most Fed employees already make more than 15 an hour.

The issue is both Fox and NBC are making it sound like it applies to all employees - Fed and NonFed. Agree that a separate "law" is needed. On CNBC they analysts were basically saying the $15 Fed would basically "encourage" private employers to $15.

Remember when an escort rates went up from $75 (1976) to $100 (1982) for outcall? That was outrageous my salary didn't go up that much during that time slice. I remember getting a "Raise" when Minimum wage went up to $2.30 per hour in 76. Now girls are trying to get $400 / hour which is like charging $145/hr back in 1982. I laugh every time I see the Arby's commercial - 5 for $10 - no it was 5 for $5. A few years back they found out that $4 / gallon for gas was the breaking point. People just cut way back on their driving and the Energy companies realized they hit the breaking point, maybe providers will catch on as well?

I pay last hooker $100.00 I was doing $80.00 for a while that up from my 60 and $75. But $60 up from my few $40 in 2016. I pay $100 to 60 in 2012 and in 2008 I was stuck paying $120, before that it lot lizard 🦎 and was big tipper them who bill end being $50.
