LE posting ads on backpage
Read an article about LE posting ads on backpage. Supposedly they are also posting warning, saying you IP and location will be recorded. Can you get in trouble just for showing up to an undercover's room?

not if you haven't incriminated yourself... but you better be damn careful to avoid discussing money or activities, before you show up to an incall...and you better be warrant-free

Story has already been posted.
You can get in trouble for doing nothing if they really want you to be in trouble.

They can still bust you for responding to ad and agreeing to meet at the hotel. Cops are not stupid. In the end, its your voice as a whoremonger (John) against the court and its law. Make sure you invest in a damn good attorney if you plan on seeing providers on BP without doing any research.

Trouble with who? SO, yes possibly.
The real question is can you get convicted for something....the answer is yes....you are assuming cops are honest. You go to court, your word vs the cop's word....who is a jury and/or judge going to believe when you just happened to be at that room completely by chance.

The courts/jury can consider the totality of the situation not just what you say and do. And you cannot beat the ride even if your never convicted. If le wants to.take you in your going.

The IP address has been logged, but not by the police. It's lying by omission. Unless they have direct access to Backpage's servers, which they don't, they have no way to obtain that info without a warrant. They're using people's ignorance of how the Internet works and jargon to scare people.

Considering the powers granted by the patriots act and current administration to the NSA and FBI to wiretap, intercept communications via text, voice and internet there maybe a chance that bp's servers have been hacked. There is currently a joint task force of 20 states and the FBI investigating the role that BP plays in human trafficking and child sex trade.

Umm, by law they need to maintain records for a certain amount of time which can be subpoenaed.

Yeah, I don't think they can really get your ip and location. That sounds more like a bluff to me. Either way after all the fabulous backpage reviews and stories on here I wouldn't play with that site with OldButStillGoing's ten foot pole! On here I feel about as safe as one can with such a hobby.

Look at this article
http://www.npr.org/2013/08/03/208664...n-more-obscure
Here is a quote from the article:
"Elizabeth McDougall, general legal counsel for Backpage, says one of the reasons the site charges a fee for the adult and dating categories "is because that provides one of the most reliable evidentiary trails for law enforcement to identify individuals."

Which means absolutely nothing. When was the last time you heard of someone being arrested for surfing websites that have nothing to do with illegal porn, piracy, terrorism, credit card, or a threat. Almost never. ISP doing security is what I do for a living.
The chances of the police busting door your door for VIEWING an escort ad on Backpage is slim to none. In the 10+ years in my job, I have never seen a request for an IP address of someone viewing an escort ad out of the tens of thousands of requests I've worked. I've handled plenty of requests for the IP's of people that POST on Backpage, but never for someone viewing an ad.

+1 HDnTX. Although if a hot new lady appears in the welcome wagon I'll usually wait until one or more of our resident Jedi masters have reviewed them.

With the Government Shutdown, I'm pretty sure the cops, FBI and other forces are focused on other issues now. Even those entities have been hit hard with layoffs and pay cuts.
Hell, the government halted all tax audits for an undetermined amount of time.
Just sayin....
