Default Returning A missed phone call ..

Hi and hello Gents and ladies
I have a question regarding returning missed calls.
What if ur busy and cant return a call and cant till hours later. Is there a limit on if they called 2+hrs dnt call back or should one return a call anytime.

I have lately had 2 dfferent incidents occur but not bad. One person sent a txt was with SO And dnt call that they would call me. Second one was glad to recieve a returned call and understood i was busy whn they called but would try another time but thanked me for calling..

So now im confused... what do u all think is best ??

Well cant wait to hear the feedback.

Everyone is different. Some people have a hobby phone and others don't... So you never really know. One thing is sure though, most people have a smart phone.

What I would do, is send that person a PM (if you know their handle). I wouldn't call, but I would text. If you text, It would be vague. I would probably say something like, "Did you call me, or is this the wrong number?"

My thinking is if someone wants you to return their call they will leave a message. If there is no message I wouldn't do it. You never know who may have access to the phone you are calling.

I can only speak for myself. If I call and you do not answer please do not call me back. That's just me though.

Good question. But this would be an individual type thing. A lot of factors can play into this; SO, home life, family, work. As I have read everyone has a certain set up. From my perspective? Those of you who have my number, texts are always welcomed. I would very much appreciate a follow up text. If there are communications with someone I've not met b4 & to avoid any confusion, I will always make it clear in a pm or text that I am very text friendly. And for future reference Lexxxii, ALWAYS drop what your doing and answer my call!!! ;p

I like JJ's response of a generic text back. This gives the initial caller the opportunity to either call or text back, or ignore till later.

Much easier to explain a wrong number or wrong text.

I agree with all of the above. I have a couple policies on this. If I can not return a call within about 30 minutes I do not at all. If....IF I text I do as someone else stated and make it very generic...Hey...literally that generic. That way if the SO sees it..."I dunno babe no clue probably wrong number." Google voice....Google voice...GOOGLE VOICE. It's even better than a hobby phone. Hell you don't even have to have a phone to have it. 90% of the time I "text" from my computer. Only really use it on my phone when I need to make or receive a call. Also if you do have it on your phone simply disable or remove the app when you are with the SO.

Before I had a hobby phone, I used to dread a call back. It always seemed like I got calls back hours later when I was with the SO. Worst part was that half the time I wouldn't recognize the the number answer and then all of a sudden get awkward when I realized who was on the other end. Now I have a hobby phone that is completely silent and doesn't go home with me. I am lucky enought to have an SO that knows what I am doing and is ok with it, but still I feel it is best not to flaunt it.

Earlier today, I got a SCATHING email from someone about my unprofessionalism because I did not call him back. It was from an unfamiliar number, 3 days after I asked him to call me, and no voicemail was left. I never call back missed numbers unless I can do it within 20 mins of them calling, or if they send a text, vm, or pm asking me to call back. I'm glad he flipped out early on, makes it easier to put him on my DNS list

1) + if the calling number is completely unfamiliar (like it is an area code I don't usually receive calls from), I simply don't answer because if they want to get me they will leave a voice mail.

2) If it is a number I recognize, but I cannot immediately answer, I let it go to vm and then text them back to explain I cannot talk right now but will get back to them soon.

Thing is, if I am with family or business people, I usually will not even have my hobby phone out and about.

** 1) & 2) if the call is coming into my personal phone, rules 1) and 2) are also in place.

In the event of 1), I also will google the phone number to see if it is a spammer (800notes.com) and then I will mark that number in my reject list.

There's an app "Call Blocker", that may help.

The premium version allows private text messages in a password protected space. The space can be renamed or hidden. Seems to work pretty good.

I'm not affiliated with the app designer.
