Rules made to be broken?

I think most hobbyists have various personal "rules" related to the hobby. Sometimes, with experience, they get discarded and/or replaced; and sometimes, with the "right" woman, they are simply broken.

I can think of a number of "rules" I've either broken or changed over time; though I've added new ones as well. Sometimes, the changes have been to maintain the spirit/intent when following the letter wouldn't make sense. To a certain extent, some rules were predicated upon certain pre-existing notions or stereotypes that proved to be false; or were simply inconsistent with goals.

Here are a couple of rules I had to change.

1. No women more than 7 years younger than me.
In *general* I've tried to adhere to that for two reasons. First, I believe it makes an escort's job easier if she is closer in age or even older. Second, in my 20's I got so fed up with 20-something women that I abandoned them in favor of chasing 30-somethings that I enjoyed more. (Of course, I was chasing the wrong 20-somethings. I should have been in the library instead of the sorority party.)

Turns out that rule, for purposes of hobbying, was totally in error. So now there are a couple of women out there -- one I have seen and one to be seen -- who completely blow away my rationale for the rule. It's toast. I have to judge based on individual merit and can't use age as a shortcut for exclusion any more.

2. No bookings longer than an hour
That rule went out the window the first time I encountered a provider whose company I actually enjoyed. Some providers are simply meant to be savored and a year wouldn't be enough.

So -- hobbyists and providers -- what personal rules have you changed over time to be more consistent with reality, or simply broken in the case of specific individuals?

As a hobbyist I had no rules, once I became a monk I had the consilia evangelica: poverty, chastity and obedience.

I had a rule of no outcall to my house . . . ever. Even though I'm single, I just didn't want any provider to know my real identity.

I've broken this rule with two different providers now. First time was with a provider who really, really intrigued me but only did outcalls. Saw her twice at hotels I paid for. Wanted to keep on seeing her, trusted her on a "gut" level, didn't want to keep spending the extra money on a nice hotel room, and maybe, like any addiction, needed a little more risk to get the same high. Ended up, I loved the ambiance and convenience of meeting at my own place. Second time was also with a provider who only did outcalls, but I had never seen her before having her over to my house. Guess once you break the rule and get away with it, you start getting a little more careless. I still don't have just anyone over to my house, but I'm getting to be flexible on this point.

I'll suggest just the opposite: you become more informed about risks and how to mitigate them (maybe even more careful) & what was once unthinkable seems reasonable.

The other reason people break their personal rules is because circumstances change.
