Default The General Petraeus Situation is why I'm a Hobbyist

The General wouldn't be in his predicament if he enjoyed a quality provider instead.

Obama's secret service agents would disagree with you.

If we weren't all over the world nosing into every other country's business, we wouldn't care what General Drone Strike was up to, anyway.
Bring the troops home!

I still dont get why a little bit of action on the side makes the man unfit for the job. It has not caused our present and past presidents to step down from office..

Obama is rumored to be a dick smoker
Same goes for Geroge W Bush
Clinton was a freakin stud
George H W Bush had a lover

I am sure if you dig deep enough you will find a mistress or two in the past of every man in a position of power.

I agree. JFK was a machine. His mistake was Judith Exner, because at that point somebody decided he needed to be taken out.

It is surprising with the decline in % of Americans who are married, the increase in "living together" (both homo & heterosexual) that morals would be such an issue.

These recent situations don't even involve using sex inappropriately in the work place. It's just two people who developed a bond.

I dated a lady once who was a staunch JFK supporter. She was a devout Catholic and adhered to the moral code of the church. When I asked her about her support for such a philanderer, she explained "Oh, he had an addiction and had to have sex or he got a bad headache". What was wrong with Jackie? Maybe Clinton had the same affliction.

I feel a headache coming on.

The rest if the story(if there is more) remains to be told. The fear is that his lover had access to confidential military material.

First off, I agree with the originator of the thread, you'd think the guy would use more discretion. And yes, he needed to be removed because of security risks. Think Mata Hari if you will. I am not saying Broadwell was a spy, but if he could be had once, stands to reason he could become a target for a real spy.

And please, spare us the conspiracy theory crap, you've watched that fairy tale movie JFK too many times.

Yes - hobbling is the answer because:

1) no hobbyist ever gets truly involved with a provider
2) no government employee ever gets caught with hookers

LOL, great points. But I think the instances of either of these happening are far fewer than the case with emotionally driven "affairs".

The oldest profession is also one of the most necessary to a well functioning society. . . so naturally, it's against the law here. . .

Ummmmm..I doubt that anyone on here serves as a bodyguard for the President of the United States, thus making your observation distinguishable from the OP's post.

If you're married or engaged having a girlfriend or mistress on the side isn't very smart. Yes..yes...yes..I've read some of the stories re Sugarbabies but unless you're lifestyle affords you the ability to keep a young lady on the side that's not very practical. Emotional attachments in a marriage are tricky enough without adding ties to extra pussy to the equation.

I do not own a high-end sports car. It's not practical in my day-to-day life. SO, when I feel the need to drive a Shelby, Mustang, Camaro, etc...I'll lease one for a short period of time and get the itch out of my system. Same thing for bustin' a nut with a(nother) woman now and then.

NY Times reports she had taken confidential files home. :-)

This shows how quickly Google turns over data without even a court order and how quickly the FBI notifies the press.

The second General is ruined and he didn't even have an affair.

What 99% of the people do not understand is that Adultery in the military is a CRIMINAL ACT. Under Article 134 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Adultery is a criminal act punishable by Dishonorable Discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances and confinement for 1 year.

This is not the same as your spouse being pissed and suing you in civil action.

What makes Petraeus' case worse is the way he served justice when he was in charge in Afghanistan. A long time ago when I was in the service, there were soldiers caught in affairs. The normal punishment was loss of one rank, $100 fine, one to three months of barracks restriction. Back then that was a severe penalty. For officers back then, the punishment was usually a stiffer fine and they would be blocked from promotion and riffed (reduction in force when you don't move up you move out).
Petraeus played "holier than though" when he was in charge and had good soldiers who were spending multiple tours away from their spouses severely punished for this and often lectured the troops on it. He was a hypocrite of the highest order.

Even though he is retired, he can still be prosecuted by the Army, and in my opinion he should be. I think he should get the maximum. Dishonorable discharge, loss of all pay (including retirement), and one year of confinement.

I am sure there are many other charges that can be brought due to his trying to conceal this affair.

So the next time someone says, "stay out of his bedroom", remind them that in this case, this is a criminal offense.
