I will just toss in that a politician running for office did tell the truth. It was, "I will do whatever it takes to get elected." I laughed and thought he would not be truthful from that moment on. Oh course I did not believe much before hand either.

That is what constitutes lying to me; the opposite of the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

When asked a question tell everything you know, nothing that you guess is the truth, and don't embellish. Don't withhold pertinent information. Don't speculate.

Our leaders (?) fall very short of this. I still look for honesty and have not given up which to me means that ALL politicians lie. There have to be a couple who don't and I don't let anyone off the hook with moral relativity; he lied so it is okay for other to lie. That kind of thinking allows you do anything. He lied so I can lie, she stole so I can steal, they killed a whole people so it is okay for us to do the same.
