Before the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, the Australian Women's Soccer Team, nicknamed the Matildas, was tired of its lack of support and recognition. So it came up with the idea of doing a nude calendar to generate money and publicity. It was a big hit - and, to some, a scandal. Its cover set the tone by featuring right-back defender Amy Taylor at an imposing angle. She later became a celebrity.
Others had even more revealing full frontal shots that were tastefully done. As a teaser, I will show this happy group photo:
The 2000 Matildas were eliminated early at the Olympics, but they are certainly winners in my mind.
