Default Snow

Just thought i would try and get my post count up here so i too can become a meaningless post whore.
So ponder this, where is all the snow, and do you think it has helped or hurt the ladies hobby business? do you care? And will we pay for the warmer temps.? and just what about global warming? I dont see it, most of the posts in here make it cold as hell.

Just keeping the post count climbing

I have LOVED not having the snow due to how much I have been able to travel. I usually only see Gents where I live in winter due to the insane snow I get where I live. I have only had to cancel one trip due to a blizzard (16 inches in 3 days) this year. What I have seen change is the winter vacation flow, I see Gents from Peak N Peak as well as Holiday Valley all winter at my private incall. This year it has been steady BUT that is no where near the usual crazy nonstop demand there usually is in the winter.
It has its ups and downs.

Global warming hasn't got much to do with the amount of snow in any given year. Such trends are gradual and "noisy," with lots of variance within the data. Statistical analysis is needed to perceive the long-term global trend. Generally it snows more during warmer years anyway.

The current weather pattern is a result of more-than-usual energy in the Gulf Stream, not necessarily attributable to global warming.

I really dont buy into global warming. I feel the planet is going through what can be amounted to a change in seasons more than anything. I think seasons are starting later and that is why we are having such dractic changes in weahter... just me opinion though..

Professor HlavinKitheri,

Thank you! I couldn't have said it better!

Being a local meteorologist I would explain that if we track patterns, as we've done for many years, we can see that this is an anomaly but at the same time we can also see that there has been a gradual increase in temperatures over the past 30 years.

Global warming? Or a cyclical pattern that dates back 100's of thousands of years?

dd,

the trend is off of the Milankovitch cycle which has dominated global climate patterns for those same 100s of thousands of years. just saying - the geologic record tells us this in great detail

Oro,

That is an interesting point and one that could lead us into a lengthy discussion about climate changes being based on the earth's axial and orbital rotation over a 41,000 year cyclical pattern but the point that I was raising is that this is really a normal, naturally occurring cyclical pattern. Its just that the pattern's periods are so long (time wise) in scope that the written record really doesn't cover it! And as everyone knows Milutin Milanković's work has its critics but with the deep sea core sample exploration his theory has been given greater credence.

NOAA 30-year “Climate Normals” report uses terms like “above normal” or “below normal,” and its referring to average temperatures and precipitation figures compiled from daily, monthly and yearly readings at thousands of locations across the country over the last three decades. The 'normals' that were set to expire are based on conditions from 1971–2000; the latest ones start in 1981 — and unlike their predecessors, include the first decade of the 21st century, which was among the hottest on record globally. The report also excludes the 70s, which were particularly cold in many areas. What you see is that the new normal temperatures for the nation are higher than the previous set.

So I guess the easiest way for me to say this is ... average temperatures are gradually rising and uh ... because ... uh ... Fuck It ... the Word is going to End in 2012 according to the Myans so who gives a Damn

Predicting or understanding the weather will probably never be truly achievable - even with NOAA's insatiable push for more and more powerful supercomputers, like the brand new Cray called "Gaea" or "Mother Earth". There are simply too many variables.
