GOP: Pelosi tossing coronavirus rules 'for what is politically convenient'

House Republicans on Tuesday accused Speaker Nancy Pelosi of tossing out coronavirus protocols for political convenience to ensure that she won election to a fourth term as speaker.
© Provided by Washington Examiner Top Republican leaders sent a letter to Pelosi complaining that safety protocols put in place by her office, made in consultation with Capitol medical officials, were swept aside on the opening day of Congress.

“The opening day of the 117th Congress was the latest example of medical guidance being thrown out the window in favor of what is politically convenient,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California, as well as other top Republicans, wrote to Pelosi.
McCarthy and other GOP leaders accused Pelosi, a California Democrat, of tossing aside detailed guidance for opening day outlined by House officials that called for social distancing and other precautions.
In addition, members exposed to active COVID-19 cases and one person who was recently diagnosed with the virus were allowed to come to the House and vote in person. Some used a specially constructed area in the viewing gallery to avoid setting foot on the floor.
“The purpose of the structure was to allow members who elected to break COVID-19 quarantine to vote,” the lawmakers wrote to Pelosi.
Among those who voted on Sunday was Gwen Moore, who was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Dec. 28. Moore said that she was “medically cleared to travel” to the Capitol. Moore did not use the special quarantine area and instead voted on the floor of the House chamber, remaining there while the clerk called the roll for her group.
Pelosi won reelection to a fourth, non-consecutive term by a narrow margin, with five Democrats voting either “present” or for another lawmaker.
The GOP was not informed of the quarantined plexiglass area, which they said “was built because it was politically beneficial for you to have members vote on your behalf for Speaker.”
Republicans said Pelosi also allowed hundreds of members to gather on the House floor for swearing-in sessions, violating special protocols instituted months ago that called for lawmakers to arrive in small groups and not linger in the chamber.
The lawmakers asked Pelosi for a “prompt response” to their letter.
In a press conference Tuesday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said that Democrats have instituted layers of rules to protect lawmakers from the virus, including a requirement that they wear masks and a request that they not congregate on the House floor.
“That hasn't always worked as well as we'd like him to continue to admonish members to observe that,” the Maryland Democrat said. “And we will continue to do so with respect to members that have been exposed.”
Hoyer chastised the GOP for opposing rules changes by Democrats allowing proxy voting in the House and virtual committee hearings and votes, all instituted to protect lawmakers from the virus.
Those changes, Hoyer said, “are most effective in trying to keep those who are opposed from exposure to others in the Congress.”

typical pelosi - she will dictate whatever helps her politically and personally - and blatantly disregard any service to the people of the nation.

she is documented in her Hypocrisy to her own regulations - locking down her home district in San Francisco, yet telling her peoples to 'eat designer ice cream" - while sneaking into a hair salon for personal services unavailable to others - and then shutting down the salon and destroying teh business of the salon owner who was forced to admit nazi Pelosi for her services - which pelosi wanted desperately to keep hidden.

Hypocrisy - the usual DPST operating system - if not for that - they would have no Agenda at all!
