You can get a close estimate by using just a seamstress' cloth measuring tape and a couple of quick measurements. We do it with horses, and it works very reliably.

And the measuring tape fits in your pocket. So, if you're discreet about it and distract her a little, she might not even notice what you're up to.

But I would give the whole notion serious consideration. Most likely, there's nothing but disappointment in the entire pursuit.
