Just by asking this, I'm screaming out "I'm a NEWBIE!!", but aside from buying one through a P411 membership, what is the best way for me to gain references?? To me it's a catch 22, can't see the girls without verified references, but can't get references until I see some girls....

Any advice would be appreciated.

I can sympathize with you. I was lucky enough to get one reference before the girl went to references-only, and it was a huge pain in the ass! I was about to drive to Austin to try to a much-needed second reference before I got lucky and landed a lovely lady who required only one reference. Keep looking and you'll find a girl, but you wont' get to be too picky in your selection IMHO.
