Don't get busted in california with a personal or hobby phone in your possession. Your personal information is now subject to exposure without a warrant. Providers and hobbiests should limit contact in cali to strings and cans and the good old fashioned pay phone.

I almost feel like searching a cell phone is something police would do anyway under the assumption most people don't know their rights (or now, their lack thereof).

Agreed, unfortunately not everyone carries a smart phone nor are they technophiles. I have 3 different security features on my phone. My phone, address book, notes et.al. are all locked down. You can't even place a call without the security pin.

Most all cells have a lock function...just to avoid placing butt calls. lol.

This is pretty much old news, though. Once arrested, you've lost all right to privacy.
