Default Football fans: excessive celebration???

Kansas State loses touchdown after player throws a salute to the crowd. Ref calls it excessive celebration, KS loses the touchdown with 15 yard penalty. If touchdown stood and KS got a 2 pt conversion then the game would be tied.

Actually, JG, K-State was awarded the touchdown. The penalty was assessed on the extra-point try rather than on the kickoff, which is the standard for assessing excessive celebration penalties in the past. K-State should have been allowed to run the extra-point try from the 2 or 3 yard line and then kick-off from the 15.

Sorry, not a football fan (yes, my Achilles heel) but do you think a salute merits such a penalty or was the ref out of line?

That was such a total screw job by the refs on the Wildcats, and this is my typing as a Husker fan! How does something like that happen? How does North Carolina's offense have a penalty on the last play (too many on field), yet also get the result of that last play ( spiking the ball to stop the clock?) Shouldn't it be assess the penalty, set the ball, start the clock with one second left, game over, no overtime!

Sheesh, we expect this kids to play a flawless game and the grown up officials can't even be consistent.

Hey, at least you were in your bowl game, K-state!

I personally think it should have been a no call. However, by the rule of college football, it probably is a penalty as it draws attention to the individual player (stupid rule for the most part). On the other hand, after the KSU player got the TD, he got an extra little push from the defensive back, which should have been a penalty itself. I think it would have been fair to have offsetting dead ball penalties. Mind you, I hate KSU and am not sad to see them lose, but to see a team lose because of a horrendous call, IMHO, well that is tough to take.

Also, I know you wouldn't accept a post of mine unless I took a little jab at you, so here goes. I thought logic was your Achilles heel. LOL.

It's almost like the refs don't want the players showing any emotion or excitement at all. I can see the point of the rule against excessive celebration, but they should really use more discretion before throwing a flag. When KU was in the Orange Bowl 3 years ago, Aqib Talib got one of these penalties when he ran back an interception and high-stepped into the endzone. I thought that was a BS call also, just like this ridiculous penalty on K-State for a salute. I can only assume that since the Syracuse crowd was in that endzone, the ref felt that the salute was an act of taunting the opposing fans by a KSU player. Plus, we'll probably never hear an explanation from that ref as to why he felt that penalty needed to be assessed.

They are just preparing them for the NFL. You know the league where you cant hit anyone hard, celebrate or talk about the ref's, or send dick pictures to pretty women.
