Default Happy MLK Day!!!

Happy MLK Day!!!

Hate him if you want, but he helped the blacks have some civil rights. Its been a long time in coming and they are not an equal yet. It is a lot better than before he did his marches. I

I remember as a kid how the police used to beat them with clubs or hose them down with high pressure water at the peaceful demonstrations. If you didn't live it, you wouldn't know.

If you lived it you know also what happened.

I agree MLK did alot of good for the black community. what I dont agree with is your opinion they are not yet equal. Thats bullshit. In fact its the opposite, they have many rights that are reverse racism. getting a college scholarship over an asian or white even though their scores are lower just because their black. dont give me the bullshit its because they are in poverty, there are twice as many white kids in poverty than blacks. getting a job simply because you are black or a woman. this country used to be that jobs were given to those who are best qualified, thats racism

I dont know about you but if I board a plane or go to have surgery, I want that pilot or doctor to be the best qualified, not someone whose race or gender put them there.

This is one of those holidays which always sneaks up on me. Never realize that because it's a holiday, I don't have work... not until it is mentioned the week before.

Happy MLK day

As long as you include "not someone whose rich daddy put them there" or "not someone whose good ol' boy network put them there", too - then sure, I agree. Let's get the best people for every job.

Point being, lots of unqualified people get lots of jobs for lots of different reasons. It's not always affirmative action to blame for the best people not getting the job.

Anyway, MLK was the man. True American hero.
Happy MLK Day.

MLK? wasn't he that guy who had to crusade to fix all the sins of the Democratic party? the party of segregation, Jim Crow and the KKK?

if it weren't for the DemonRat party MLK wouldn't have been assassinated and there wouldn't be a holiday for him.

i think he was a Republican who opposed ILLEGAL immigration ..

WHO KNEW!!!

MLK was a great man whose message made a huge change.
What is needed now is a different message. The focus now needs to be a greater advancement in city school education. Or any impoverished area for that matter.

I have a buddy that use to teach in the city. Said it was a circus and felt the shame was the kids that wanted to learn were often swept away with no chance. We need to get those kids out of the circus and into charter schools without fail.

You THINK MLK was?

Reminds me of a thread that raged on this board (or was it the previous one) for years. But some of y'all might already know that, fellas.

But you gotta give TWK credit for turning a day honoring peace and nonviolence into a partisan rant.

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!

MLK was killed by a racist out of fear for what he stood for. Leave it up to the GOP to make fun of someone's misfortune.

Oh wait

who's making fun of it? my uncle was a retired Tennessee State Trooper who later worked as a corrections officer at Brushy Mountain state prison. he guarded James Earl Ray. so did his son Alan my cousin.

just so you know, when Ray actually escaped briefly in 1977 my uncle was still a State Trooper and my cousin as a deputy sheriff at the time

they were both part of the manhunt to recapture Ray.

here's some political commentary for u

sounds about right to me...

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!

In his book, What Would Martin Say?, Clarence Jones, one of King's lawyers and a close advisor, argues that King would vehemently oppose any form of amnesty for undocumented immigrants:

He'd say, 'If you're in this country illegally, have you come here in order to protest what you consider an 'unjust law?' If you haven't, then for whatever other reason you're here, even if it's to make money for your sick child, which is as good a reason as there is, then you're just violating the immigration laws of this country and deserve no more consideration from the authorities than does a thief.

interesting yes?

King was a conservative who opposed illegal immigration
