Hi all,
I've been fascinated with corsetry since I discovered them. A well-fitted corset on a lady is a joy to view, and if done right its quite comfortable, if a bit snug..
But there are a few things to keep in mind. Tightlacing is corsetry at its extrme. The lady (or gent) wears a corset for 23hrs a day, 7 days a week. You will need a partner to help you with it, and its not without some health issues/risks as well. I'm not a huge fan of it because I prefer the ladies to have waists that are in a good ratio to the rest of their body. So a 19in corsetted waist on a woman who has 36in hips looks unappealing to me (personally).
Also, the corsets used initially for training are quite sturdy and functional, but nowhere as pretty as the satin ones you see on corsets on models (or like the one Alexis modeld for us (drool). They are typcially made of canvas, have lacing on in the back, no busk, and are underbust. I actually have one from Wasp creations. It's quite functional, and very strong. But nowhere near pretty!
If you are on Fetlife (and if you aren't, get there!) there is a group dedicated to corsetry -
http://fetlife.com/groups/215. Elegantly Waisted - Corsets and Corsetry. In the stickies they have corset makers around the US and the world.
Romantansy is a lingerie seller, they don't make their own any more. Dark Garden is of a similar model, but I do believe they have some staff that makes their own. Leathermasters is good for a local place to try them on and get your first one.
My personal favorite here in Texas is a lady by the name of Alexis Black, who is located in Spring. She makes the most fantabulous corsets I've ever seen, and will make you the matching bra/panty/whatever that you want. For big names you might check out Puimond, they make a mean corset too.
But a good custom steel-boned corset isn't cheap. They are gonna start at $300 or so and go up from there. But IF this is something you are really into, they are a great investment.
Yay for corsets!!!
