Default Drama

I know the mods and per mgl's post eccie rules, that confrontation, meanness and other forms of drama are discouraged. I have seen many posters whine about drama and post cross her off my list, I hate drama queens. I, however,am turned on by smart women and enjoy witty repartee.

My question for the board is how does everyone feel. Not the frequent posters who have made their positions clear, but the silent majority.

Do you hate all drama (we all hate whining victims and stupid twits that have no point to their vindictiveness)

Or do you enjoy intelligent give and take, mental gymnastics, and other forms of mental jousting?

The silence of the silent majority is overwhelming. Apparently no one likes witty repartee?

I know I'm not exactly the silent anything...

But I relish wit almost as much as I enjoy a good orgasm.

Incidentally, the very best sexual experiences always seems to happen with those possessing a higher level of intelligence, in my personal experience.

Unfortunately, wit, like sarcasm, sometimes doesn't translate well to the printed word. It is dependent on the mood of the receiver, to either be perceived as funny or rude. It then becomes the responsibility of the writer to ensure their mood is understood as being playful not spiteful. This is hard to do and still have the post remain humorous. Usually a bit of self deprecation is enough to set the mood prior to the jibe.

<ON RANT>

As to the "Silent Majority", being a staff member here, I can tell you, they don't wish to be silent. Many would love to involve themselves in the exchange of information and good natured banter that occurs in this forum, but they won't.

Why not?

Because they don't want to be flamed for not knowing as much as someone else, or as I have witnessed, getting blasted just for responding in a friendly fashion to what some consider "the wrong poster". I myself was ostracized when I first started on ASPD merely for picking an avatar that one unpopular lady also used.

This is a community, and for it to become a stronger, more efficient and effective community it requires new members with fresh input and varied opinion. It behooves us all to welcome and dare I say mentor the "silent majority" when they choose to be less silent and attempt to use this board as it was designed, to share and request information. It is our ridicule and our drama that silences the majority, and thereby we limit our possibilities.

<OFF RANT>

thank you

Still, I am leaving your nuts alone, please do me the same courtesy.

Thank you, Lazr, for the best explanation of the topic I have read. I understand your position a lot better now.

That was not the intent. I truly wanted to know if the majority truly hate drama, or if like me they enjoy it for its entertainment value. Apparently I am in the minority. I was asking others that read but do not post much, what direction they want the board to take. Mr. Happy was proposing a New Yrs resolution to end the drama. To me that will remove some of the fun of reading the board. Others have vocally championed an end to drama. This post is kind of like a town meeting for the board on the topic. Does Mr. Happy have the backing of the board to pursue his current course, or should the stance be relaxed. If you like repartee, witty discourse and verbal sparring, you better stand up for it now, or forever hold your peice.

As Lazr has already said, there's a difference between playful Wittiness and having a Hidden Agenda. It seems like some people, mostly providers, seem to have a hidden agenda with there remarks on the board. Of course it doesn't help when that person stands up for themself . Then its like pack a wolves just attack until they either go silent, get banned, or thread is closed . Yet most times the wolves are still around looking for there next prey . Then you wonder why some hobbyist or providers don't like chatting in forums, if there not in the pack.

You totally misunderstand me, Rockydoc. There is nobody who appreciates, enjoys and will participate in repartee, witty discourse and verbal sparring than I.

If you look back over the postings in the Arkansas Forum over the past couple of years that have brought warnings, points and even eventual bans, you'll note the verbal sparring degenerated into rudeness, disrespect and even intentional verbal attacks on members who might not agree with a prevailing opinion.

My objective is to make those in the community comfortable with posting. Without exception, the providers who have joined the board in 2012 haven't had more than a welcome posting and perhaps one or two postings in the coed forum and they tell me it is the fear of being attacked that keeps them from posting. That absence restricts the community as a whole from getting to know them and hampers business.

Thank you Lazr for your eloquently written "rant"

Dammit OSD! I guess I was following your lead and I did the same damn thing. Relevant in both places, really... Sorry for the repeat.

All this talk of ECCIE drama -- If ECCIE world is bothering you or causing you grief while you are away from your computer then maybe it's time to take a break from the hobby. Most of the "drama" (I hate that word) is escalated when hobbyist/providers involve themselves in issues/situations where there presence in neither needed nor appreciated.

Still waters run deep and no one benefits when an uninformed outside party comes along waving their hands and ranting about drama. All the WK'ing (hobbyist) and co-signing (providers) is counter-productive and irritating. We are all big boys and girls and I don't think any of us need a bodyguard to protect us during verbal combat.

Voicing opinions or ideas in open forum invites other opinions and ideas. If everyone is afraid to post then thats their problem. Every time I post anything I run the risk of offending someone; it doesn't stop me from posting. All this effort to protect the weak. Why? If they're too afraid to post then I doubt they have anything worthwhile to say. I feel strongly on various subjects and I am fully capable of defending my logic if challenged. If a member is taking the time to post an opinion or idea then they are responsible for the context of that post. If another member doesn't agree then it becomes a discussion (sometimes heated, and thats ok too) and we all have a chance to view the issue from 2 different perspectives. I enjoy witty banter. I like hearing the opinions of others and when they differ from my own then I admire the person who is willing to trade insight and explain the logic behind whatever issue is causing the controversy. I don't expect to be handled with kid gloves and I don't need anyone standing on the sidelines cheering me on. If I'm wrong on an issue then I'm woman enough to admit it. If someone doesn't agree with something I say then should I pout and snivel or retreat into hobby solitude?! I feel no sympathy for anyone who is "afraid" to post nor do I feel sympathy for those who recklessly interact and contribute nonsense but are incapable of defending the logic or reason behind their thoughts.

If you can't take the heat then stay outta the kitchen.
