Default Health Care Spending Accounts

I know this is a dumb or crazy question, but I was wondering if anyone has thought about using their health care spending accounts on "massage" places. I know some places take credit cards and all, but I know, I know, it's too risky. But just a thought.

As long as they have licensed medical massage therapists...that may work.

I'm pretty sure you need a prescription to use your health care spending account for a massage, and a receipt. Geez my insurance questions everything, used it at a doctor's office for $6 for a flu shot, they needed a receipt, what can you pay for at a Doctor's office that shouldn't be covered?

With Humanna It comes under the Alternative Medicine heading
The massage provider has to be licensed and has to be on their list of
of providers

In addition to facts already given, keep in mind that in order for a massage parlor to collect from an insurance agency they must put in many man hours. Considering these places half the time don't even accept credit cards, I doubt they would be willing to fill out the paperwork and put in the footwork required to collect from insurance companies.

Check with your flex spending or health care spending provider to see what is covered and you will need a legitimate receipt to send in. I'm sure if it is covered you would need to see a licensed CMT or maybe other alternative healer like acupuncturist or chiropractor for the massage? Just saying....
