I saw that clip on the news. What an ignorant loudmouth. Native Americans never had much to do with 'building Chicago:!

And now for my own ignorance:: I am under the impression that slavery in the northern US had pretty much evaporated by the time Chicago had become much of a city.

Sure, slavery was rampant in many states, but a significant plot element in Mark Twain's novel ab out Huckleberry Finn and the runaway slave, Jim . . .is when their raft passes the mouth of the Ohio River, putting them south of the last free city on the Mississippi river, Caro Illinois.
