Default Condoms that detect STD's.....

We wanted to make something that make detecting harmful STI’s (sexually transmitted infections) safer than ever before, so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors,” Daanyaal Ali told The Independent.

The condoms glow a different color in the dark if an STD is detected. Reports show that the condom uses a built-in-indicator that changes color when a bacteria or infection is detected. Green may indicate chlamydia, yellow for herpes, purple for human papillomavirus, or blue for syphilis.

I guess I'll have to retire my rainbow-colored condoms to avoid misunderstandings.

No one will use them. People don't like to be faced with truth and consequence that much.

My question was how do you tell who has the STD since both people would have contact with the condom.

I like rice, I guess you'd have to buy an extra one and jerk of with it before you use it in action.

Also, I noticed the original post didn't mention what color it turns for "Philadelphia". Does it detect that?

You could go for a two-tone approach. One half has color-changing stuff on the inside; other half has it on the outside.

Which creates another question: If the two halves match, and it's colored, is it a good thing to have matching STDs?

That's because it doesn't detect STDs, it detects STIs. Bacteria must be present to change the color, and the color depends on which bacteria is present. Viral infections and otherwise are not detectable by this condom.

imo if the detection process is for real, then it can be used in more than just a condom application.

For example, a "home test kit" in which the testing materials are maybe much smaller than a condom, etc. Could be sold over the counter at the local pharmacy, much as some of the pregnancy tests, HIV tests, etc.

Biggest barrier to this would obviously be the FDA bureaucrats.

And, another barrier (not a pun about condoms) would be people's reluctance as noted above to be even seen in the vicinity of the product shelf in the pharmacy and fear of the product being discovered at home or office or hotel room.

That said, if indeed the condom/tests work, could be part of the initial engagement process when a provider meets a hobbyist.

There are those of us old enough to remember "skin it and wring it" military STD exams way way back when....

How long before it changes color? You're banging away and while it's going in and out you start to notice your dick is a different color? "HOLY SHIT!! Uh, I forgot that I left my iron on at home. I'll call you sometime. Later!!!"

All that, and what would lube do to the process? Or, what if you take a piss beforehand? What about Greek? What about those who give CBJ's, and it turns from that?

These don't exist. It's only an idea. Almost all the news stories blindly jumped in this without going into detail. It was a couple of teenagers who "invented" it. But really it was just an idea they presented in a competition. They didn't make anything, and the technology doesn't exist. It needs to be developed and tested first, if it's even possible and financially feasible. So basically all the news is about someone saying "hey wouldn't it be great if we had condoms that detected STIs?"

Here's a better article

Since it's theoretical, I think it would be great if they also included free wifi.
