Best idea here! Brilliant in fact. Get a variety. If you are unfamiliar with brands, types go to the biggest liquor store in town and ask as salesperson to help you. You don't have to make a big deal about with your client before hand...just offer him a drink...

Make sure you have plenty of bottled water on hand

I don't think anyone expects perfection. That you made an effort is nice. As someone mentioned before, the only way you turn this into a negative is if you offer to take requests then can't delver on it.

Champagne, sparkling wine or proseco. They don't stain. In case anyone was wondering, the average female belly button (innie) holds 5mL of champagne!

Tannins in red wines and stronger alcohols in liquors may negatively impact a gentlemen's "hang time" as Peg Bundy so eloquently put it.

The better champagnes are less sweet with smaller bubbles. Moët is still around $26, and Costco has Vueve Cliquot for $44. Nothing pairs better with diamonds and tuxedos than great champage.

Pop! - gotta go

I often bring splits of a nice Champagne or a bottle of Prosecco to pair with gourmet chocolates and French macarons. The idea is to create a nice elegant and social atmosphere to facilitate social interaction. I bring some fabulous non-breakable flutes that I find at my locale up scale supermarket. This little touch adds a lot and shows that I am into the experience.

Some ladies, even sophisticated Europeans, don't like sparkling wines so I may bring Eiswien, a sweet dessert wine that can be very expensive but I found a Canadian clone for less than $20. Again, this is to create a relaxed, elegant atmosphere and not about the drink.
Cheers!

Care to share your Canadian secret? I'm not much of a desert wine drinker, but I have a few quests that might enjoy it and I'd love to have some of this novelty on hand!

I don't remember what I bought but I looked on line and saw and remember the Inniskillin winery with several selections north of $50. More affordable is Jackson Trigg Vidal for $27. Wagner from the Finger Lake area has an offering at about $25.

Your best bet is to go to a good wine store and ask for some recommendations. These are small 375 ml. bottles so they don't take
up much storage space.

And you should try them just for the experience. Very different. The Chinese are big fans.
