Sorry that happened to you. The newest trend right now is bill washing. Those nice little counterfeit pens will not help you. You have to look for the little strip imbedded in the paper. Make sure the strip denomination matches the bill face. The washed fives are being reprinted as hundreds and are pretty good. If you know what to look for, they are fairly easy to spot. You just have to look!

Thanks for the tip! I'm pretty cool over it bc of my type of clients. I'm sure they didn't know either. In two years it's the first time this has happened. Just wanted to warn the ladies to be aware.

Gents may wanna double check their bills just to make sure their ATF doesn't end up having to hang out at the bank unexpectedly.

I use a counterfeit pen and uv flashlight on all bills. They make a combo light and pen that they sell at Staples.

The light is awesome. Each strip glows a different color according to the denomination. I never remember which color is for the hundred, but it glows really well and becomes easy to read.

Just curious...is it possible to get a counterfeit bill from my bank's ATM?
I assume they check that closely but I don't really know.

Are you out the $100? I would guess so since the bank has no reason to accept it.

Default No need for UV lights

On a $100 bill, all you have to do is scratch Franklin's jacket for texture.

Engraving/Embossing is really hard for most counterfeiters to duplicate.

Honestly, I have never inspected them further than for a strip and the texture. I will now though. I doubt many others inspect to a great degree as Nastya mentioned (excellent due diligence, ma'am) .

This was a random happening and I wanted to let others know to check their bills. I do believe it was an honest mistake. I have contacted the gents I saw this week to let them know, all of whom I trust due to their history and p411 status.

This is really more of a PSA to check your bills. At first I directed it to the ladies, but edited bc it really is all of our responsibility.

Any input is surely appreciated in effort to inform others.

PS: I have lost $100 in worse ways than this so its really nbd. Thank you for your concern though, LA.

Yes possible. By a teller who uses a phony and keeps the real. But rare as that takes real skill . Otherwise what the bank takes in is checked.

Once i accused the bank gave me the $100 counterfeit bill (long story..), but they explained to me that their machine detects fake bills.

Was this the new $100 dollar bill- because I thought the purpose of the new design was to make it very difficult to counterfeit?

I'm not sure. There were a few old ones and a few new ones. I asked which bills and they wouldn't say. They just gave me a slip of paper to document the discrepancy between what I handed them and what was deposited and asked me if I knew who gave me the bills. I said no and that was it. I wish I thought better at the time to ask more questions but I was nervous (and a little embarrassed). I just wanted to get out of there.
