Missing the point of the thread? Maybe. I guess I was distracted by the disparaging comments regarding Native Americans. I take it that the real point of the thread is that protests and other forms of civil disobedience should not be allowed to derail a project like this pipeline if all the legal prerequisites to approval of the project were properly completed. That could be a valid argument, but it would raise in my mind a question regarding the fairness of those prerequisites and the entire approval process. It seems an odd coincidence that unsightly, undesireable, and potentially hazardous projects seem to invariably be located in or near places inhabited by poor folks. There are probably multiple factors that come to bear on that fact, but one of them is most certainly the comparative wealth of the competing interested parties. I doubt the folks opposing this pipeline had the wherewithal to lawyer-up to the same extent of those seeking to build the pipeline. Just look at all the shit that gets dumped in poor neighborhoods around here. Compare that to the Ashby Highrise saga (while although it's still being built, it's on a greatly reduced scale). Face it, if you're poor, you have a diminished ability to exercise your rights. Recognizing that doesn't doesn't make me a SJW, it just demonstrates that I'm not blind. However, if believing in the proposition that wealth should not be the SOLE factor in establishing one's access to a decent minimal standard of living (reasonable shelter in a reasonably safe neighborhood, proper nutrition, adequate health care, decent education, employment at a fair wage, etc.) makes me a SJW, then let's get it on.

Zinn? Not really a fan, despite the shout-out in Good Will Hunting. I don't think the idea that Native Americans were fucked-over by Europeans is a novel or controversial concept, and certainly not a radical one. In fact, it's great anti-immigrant propaganda for you Trumpist dipshits. The First Nations had a pretty good thing going until those immigrant assholes showed up.

And present day reality? Here's a tidbit. Guess what ethic group in the US has the highest percentage of individuals shot by law enforcement? Yep, Native Americans.

So . . . endeavor to persevere.

Lizard-

By your logic:
You must live in a slum.
There are probably 10 times the number of pipelines within a couple miles of where you live than in the Dakotas.

That makes no sense. I don't live in a "slum", and there are no pipelines running near me. You can check that on the Texas RRC website. There are, however, pipelines running through the less affluent areas around here. Shit gets dumped in areas where the inhabitants lack the resources to fight it. Surely you don't doubt or dispute that?

Crude transported by ppl is far safer than being transported by rail or tanker trucks.

Bakken crude will be moved, ppl or not.

You have a better alternative?

Well, the main point of this thread is that it is a parody. That is what you miss.

Second, the history is well known. Humans have been fighting each other eternally. The ones who fought the best got the goods. It's only very recent history that humans have come to realize they can't continue like that. Indian tribes fought each other, it's not just the Europeans that brought this concept. The Sioux, Apache, and Comache tribes were fiercely warlike. Not to mention adulterous since we are on eccie. Now we have football, and MMA, and we can enjoy virtual fighting on our tv.

Third, America is a great place. Not so easy to follow what you say. Thomas Jefferson is thought to be one of the greatest of the founding fathers. He is a shining example of espousing great principles, but following none of them in his own life.

Man vs man. Man vs nature. Man vs. God. This is our life on earth.

Wow. The ignorance displayed here is pretty stunning. Maybe try actually learning some history before you spout off random crap lol

Well, the all-knowing Alexa tells me that parody is "a humorous imitation of a serious piece of literature or writing". I suppose it was the absence of any humorous element that threw me off the scent.

America is a great place, and I love my country. But I'm not prepared to ignore the fact that we are the foremost exporters of death, destruction, and misery on the planet. That, again, is just part of our European heritage.

Why make due with "virtual fighting"? If you need to see folks fight, just flip on a screen somewhere around you - they're omnipresent - and satisfy that need by taking a look at what's going on in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, all over central Africa, and a bunch of other places.

Your last sentence is accurate, but incomplete (although it could arguably be subsumed by the first listed conflict). Rich vs. poor is (or will very shortly become) the defining conflict in American society today.

We may as well bring in the real battleground - sports teams with Indian names:

Florida State Seminoles
Washington Redskins
North Dakota fighting Sioux (school forced to remove it)
can we put the Dallas Cowboys here ?

And whose idea was it to give the Indians all those casino rights ? Donald Trump ? He enjoyed part of the casino action too. Of course, he wiped out all his investors money, but made sure he collected plenty.

Sitting Bull
General George Armstrong Custer
Geronimo

Those were the days

The pipelines run from and to where they are needed. If affluent or impoverished areas are populated AFTER they are put through, that's a developer issue. If I am not mistaken Deer Park ISD has more money than any other ISD because of property taxes paid by "evil" industry. Dew ISD has a shit pile too and doesn't even have a high school thanks to tight shale natural gas development. I didn't use the term frack because that is 65+ year old technology. That area would not be producing if it were not for geosteerable drilling and its accuracy.

Default Injuns

As far as the Injuns go, they were attacking and enslaving each other long before white men arrived. The various Sioux tribes are in the Great Plains because it was either move or be exterminated by stronger tribes around the Great Lakes. They wouldn't have even gotten a reservation to live on there.

This, for example? http://www.nationalreview.com/articl...al-regulations ...or would Dee Brown's collection of stories be more relevant to present circumstances?
