The IRS examines about 1% of returns filed by individuals, and it's been getting lower due to reduced funding from Congress. They have digital matching which can verify a W-2 or 1099 with the amount reported on a tax return. What they are looking for with tax prep companies like H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt are abuses of the Earned Income Credit. The most common problem is people claiming dependents that aren't theirs or don't even exist. The criteria that I heard once is this: If the IRS doesn't think they can get $500+ more from an examination, it's not worth the time and effort.

If someone is found to be lying penalties alone would make up the costs.
They might try Al Sharpton. Apparently he owes over 20 mil.

Just Curious but how do my fellow providers file your taxes when your sole income is from being a provider?

I believe you can use the term 'escort' as your profession..
Apparently that is a legitimate occupation.

Thats easy Carmen Foxx! Claim self employment. I have a friend who is a CPA (not in the hobby) who does my taxes. I have a real world job and I claim that and self employment (stripper, babysitting, etc...) and she has helped me get more back. She knows about the hobby but we don't talk about it much but she knows what's up. If any ladies wants to give her a try PM me for her info. Shes here in Corpus Christi Texas.
When my sister was hobbying, my friend did my sisters taxes. She never had a real world job. She claimed 3 kids and self employment and got back close to $7000.

That doesn't make any sense. She's lying to somebody, either you or the IRS. When you report more income, you pay more tax, especially self-employment income which costs 15.3% self-employment tax.

Hmm, one might consider the USPS to be an inept bureaucracy itself. Not sure I trust them to deliver my mail even if it is certified and return receipt requested.

It's been years since I had my taxes done for being self-employed, paying social security taxes and other fees.
You might try getting the advice or services of a CPA or licensed tax preparer who can represent you in case of an audit.
With that, you can probably do them yourself if you feel confident.
Be sure you have receipts for clothes, costumes, etc as a part of your job.
I recall that a stripper was allowed by the courts to write off her breasts implants as a legitimate business expense.

That is incorrect, there is no dollar limit.

That is not true, the IRS would not be able to audit the millions of returns filed through H&R that have a refund and have children claimed as dependents.

Thanks for the post Majesty! I had claimed self employment the previous years and also massage therapy but I'm not licensed anymore so now I won't be able to use it for my taxes. I thought about putting self-employed, entertainer? Not sure how specific they want you to be when filing taxes. I had a CPA before but didn't tell her I was an escort, just that I make my money "entertaining". But I'm moving soon and will need to find a new CPA. I'd contact your lady but I'm not in Texas.

Default USPS Inept?

I do consider USPS as INEPT! The stories I could tell... However, the paperwork, once completed and returned, does carry significant weight. Even if the green card is not returned, the certified receipt is almost always considered proof that the return was mailed and the assumption is that the mailer has fulfilled their obligations. Then if the green card is not returned (happens too often for my liking), then you assume that delivery was NOT made and follow up appropriately.
